noticed in the frozen food section where
the light turns on using the motion sensor-
turn on when customer walks toward this
section

Opportunity: Can this approach be used
for other energy conservation? E.g.
washrooms, storage areas etc.

Noticed corporate philanthropic efforts
by Wal-Mart for various charity during my
visit. This has a positive impact on
customers.
Opportunity : Need to use social media
technologies to create pages for charity
contributions, and tweets to announce
the charitable donations status. This way
they can improve online presence and
brand image among customers.
Store layout seemed boring and not
inviting. Focus is towards providing low cost
product not towards service.
Wal-Mart model : Low cost product provider


Opportunity to layout the store by color
schemes, creative stands to appeal the
gender and age group of product
segments. Need to modify model for
service element in order to gain long term
sustainability.
Instead of employee operated POS




Opportunity for self scanning purchasing
 stations for each product segment
 where they are located to facilitate
 rapid shopping experience.
Instead of this

Direct customers fast using search page
as shown, giving customers with lane
number and shelf number information.
Opportunity to display the top selling
product trend dashboard to entice
customers for further sales.
Also an indication for emphasis to the
inventory and shelf restocking teams.

    TODAYS MOST SELLING PRODUCTS
Using augmented reality an opportunity
for virtual fitting room to try the selected
outfit from the store along with their
favorite accessories




Wal-Mart and the Bay as the leaders in
retail should setup virtual tryout stations in
the store.
Product demos should be conducted for
newly introduced product at store to
market the product effectively. I have
not seen this happening at Wal-Mart.

Opportunity to win customers loyalty:
For loyal customers, appreciation should
be via discounted coupons for repeat
customers to keep the relationship
maintained
Observed over 130 cameras in the Wal-
Mart store




  It is    to see so many cameras.
  Is there a better way to perform
  surveillance?.
Simple step by step
instruction for
ordering/shopping



This can be modified by other stores
and use for improvement
I noticed an increasing trend for 3D products
from TV, cell phones to now children games
Creative isle for LEGO products




Display of upcoming movies, this
approach should be used by retailers
Wal-Mart and Target
Noticed customer representatives with the
  uniform dress code of the store.

  Can this be changed to theme dressing for
  employees on weekends such as X-men film
  theme, Disney cartoon character theme, etc.




This will improve the appeal among kids and
teenagers.

  continue for more fun!
Books are categorized and display
nicely.
Opportunity: In addition to the book
displays, Target should provide some
search page in book section where
customers can browse the quick preview
and best sellers list.
Noticed an increasing trend of the QR
code on the products.
Opportunity: QR code is very powerful
and can be utilized for inventory
tracking, social media tracking, for
surveys, for instructions on assembly for
furniture and other products.
Target model = Service + low/medium end product
Average representative to customer ratio
is 1 to 15
Opportunity to use technology in order
to assist customers effectively in
disproportion workforce.
 Majority of the products are made
overseas.
How can we golocal and encourage
local suppliers?
In Target Royal Agency noticed heavy
  use of credit card purchases also by
  using paypass.



  Opportunity to have mobile wallet trend
using NFC equipped cell phones.
Instead of measuring feet size using the
following




Opportunity for digital feet measuring
Emergency evacuation map is found
and exit sign posted




Opportunity to use special fluorescent
paint at the bottom of the shelf to guide
towards the exit sign in case of power
outage and emergency
Noticed that floor is laid out in form of
islands of different product segments.
Observed the nice
      decoration for the bedroom
      by the store trying to sell all
      the bedroom related items
      in one shot. A good retail
      approach.
      Lighting in this area was
      perfect.
      Aromatic smell using
      scented candles.

Store representatives are very welcoming and would
ask for helping!
Bay model noticed: Service + Medium to high end product
New items introduction is
                               properly advertised in the bay.
                               Lighting for men’s cologne was
                               also perfect.



    Elevator positioning is perfect and
       coming down the elevator gives
a good view of items on the lower level


    Did not notice any impulse items
         around cash register
Use of the Mobile technology for saving
                    offer on Wallets


 Need to improve on the music to make it more appealing.
Targeted music for different sections will help.
Music system SONOS implementation would be a good
choice, that can be controlled individually speaker volumes
and music streams through wireless.
Information boards for the stroller and
 travel system explaining the different
 child transportation system




Use of product demo videos further can
further enhance customer experience
Noticed over 100 lights for the store




Use of renewable energy (solar or wind)
should be used for the lights below

Customers are seen leaving store with smile
on their faces.

locations in US and Canada. The Aritzia experience is one
of a kind.
