Okay, so you are driving down a London road and a rock or some other debris flies up and hits your windscreen. Great, now you have a crack running right across your viewing area. That is very bad, but just think of what would have happened if you did not have a windscreen. You would be injured very seriously. The same thing can happen if you go to a random windscreen repair and replacement services shop and they use unlicensed material for your windscreen replacement. Do you know the difference between OEM (original equipment manufacturer) and aftermarket windscreens?

Should I Use an OEM or Aftermarket Windscreen? - My Windscreen London
1. Should I Use an OEM or Aftermarket Windscreen? - My Windscreen London
Okay, so you are driving down a London road and a rock or some other debris flies up and
hits your windscreen. Great, now you have a crack running right across your viewing area.
That is very bad, but just think of what would have happened if you did not have a
windscreen. You would be injured very seriously. The same thing can happen if you go to a
random windscreen repair and replacement services shop and they use unlicensed material for
your windscreen replacement. Do you know the difference between OEM (original
equipment manufacturer) and aftermarket windscreens?
OEM Windscreens
The OEM windscreen that originally came with your vehicle is put through many rigorous
safety tests to be sure it will provide the best protection in the case of an accident. An OEM
windscreen will be exactly the same as the original that came with your car when it was
brand new. This windscreen material is made to the vehicle manufacturer’s regulations and
will be the same size, shape, clarity and thickness as the original. At My Windscreen London
we use only OEM glass for replacements.
Aftermarket Windscreens
An aftermarket windscreen is not certified so they do not have to be up to the same standards
and regulations. In other words, they can be cheap and unsafe because nobody checks them
or tests them prior to installation. Many people who have gotten aftermarket windscreens
installed instead of OEM windscreens have complaints about various problems, both minor
and major. Some have claimed there is noise coming from the windscreen or that there is
leakage when it rains or snows. Other complaints include blurred or distorted view or a
darker tint than their original windscreen. More serious complaints have been a lower crush
test percentage and shattering in an accident. These can lead to deadly consequences in the
case of a serious collision.
What Will Insurance Pay For?
My Windscreen London Windscreen Repair and Replacement Services works with any
insurance carriers to get you the best deal so you do not have to pay anything. But we also
want to be sure our customers are safe so we insist that the insurance cover the OEM
windscreen rather than a cheaper aftermarket one. If the insurance company will only cover
an aftermarket priced windscreen we will give you the option of paying the excess expense to
get OEM material instead. It is usually not a big price difference and we accept all major
credit cards.
