- On Monday June 3, Trustees Patti Bacchus and Rob Wynen officially opened Van Tech ’s new market garden. The garden has come about as a result of a partnership between the VSB and Fresh Roots. 13-06-18
- On Tuesday, June 4, WEST teacher Franco Iuele honoured his graduating WEST students with a special awards ceremony. During the event, Franco spoke from the heart about some of the incredible accomplishments of his small program including their success raising thousands of dollars to help build a school in Africa. 13-06-18
- On Tuesday, June 4, I joined other district staff in a wonderful tour to of the new Norma Rose Point School knowledgeably led by our Facilities Project Manager Kelly Isford Saxon and District Principal David Nelson. 13-06-18
- On Thursday, June 6, Green Thumb Theatre celebrated its official opening at Carleton Elementary with provincial and municipal officials in addition to trustees, district staff and members of the BC Arts Community. It is very exciting to have such a vibrant and culturally significant arts group as neighbours to Carleton Elementary. 13-06-18
- On Thursday, June 6 students from Vancouver, across the lower mainland and across Canada gathered for the19th Annual Skills Canada National Competition. Chairperson Patti Bacchus and I visited the competition held at BC Place. It was very impressive to see so many students involved in everything from hairdressing, culinary arts to carpentry and landscaping. This is an area that we need to encourage and develop in the school district. Just today, various staff members and I met with Larry Espe, the new Superintendent of Trades and Transitions to discuss ways to improve and encourage student access to trades and apprenticeships. 19 TH ANNUAL SKILLS CANADA NATIONAL COMPETITION 13-06-18
- On Thursday, June 6, along with Chairperson Patti Bacchus and trustee Ken Clement, I had the honour of attending and speaking at the annual Aboriginal Education Grade 12 Achievement Celebration. This year, it was held at the Croatian Cultural Centre. It was a very moving and heart warming event that showcased the great achievements of Aboriginal students from across the school district. 13-06-18
- On Monday, June 10, members of Southlands Elementary school received a visit from IB officials from head offices Holland and the US, as well as former Premier Mike Harcourt and a number of current and past VSB administrators. The students and guests were there to celebrate Southlands as the 1000 th IB world school. The event concluded with a creative performance and dance by some very talented division of Grade 4 students. 13-06-18
- On Thursday, June 13, Chairperson Patti Bacchus and I had the opportunity to join with parents and staff members in celebrating the graduation of 11 students from the Pinnacle Inter - Agency Alternate Program. Susan Downing Kim Brand 13-06-18
