Summer Heat & Seizures Presented By: Myeshi Briley,HS-BCP myeshibriley@gmail.com
Summer brings heat & more heat . For many that means increased seizures, trying to stay cool and hydrated. Many have said, that heat has nothing to do with increased seizures for someone that has epilepsy. With my research , I see a different picture. We all know that seizures can happen to an epileptic at any time. But with my research and a lot of journal notes there is something more when the Summers Heat is added. When the bodies temp changes it alters the chemistry where information is going to the brain. It is important to know that everyone's body is different, so what may effect one person might be different to another person. It is so important to make a daily journal in the summer months of what you eat, how well you sleep and how much sun you take in for the day. Make sure you have a doctor that listen to you, and information you have collected to share with them. ( The Sun ) Yes, can play a major role in increased seizures for some. I believe to much sun and heat can result to physical trauma for some that suffers from seizures. With knowing your body, I think you can have a very productive summer, without dreading the summer months. All it takes is you getting your body ready for the change of weather and a little note taking.

Keep a Diastat Acudial with you just in case. (Prescription from your doctor) 9. Allways have a phone near by just in case an emergency call is needed 911. 10. Allways where your medical bracelt on neckles.
Dehydration and Epilepsy Make sure you have plenty of fluids in your system if you have epilepsy. Too much perspiration and not enough fluid intake can cause a drop in sodium and sugar levels (hypoglycemia), both of which have been known to cause seizures. Also, sweating or urinating too much may cause too much of your seizure medication to be expelled from your body, lowering both your therapeutic medication levels and your threshold for seizures Read more: Heat & Seizures | eHow.com http://www.ehow.com/about_6574448_heat-seizures.html#ixzz1Lv7kZz7p
