2. All the horror films that we watch today have been
influenced by a lot of important cinematic periods. The
main influences that we know of are German
Expressionism and Film Noir. Horror films today have
picked up on many of their techniques and used them
as their own. Without German Expressionism and Film
noir Horror films wouldn’t be the same as it has had a
massive influence on them.

3. Film noir comes from the 1940-50’s era. It refers mostly
to Hollywood crime dramas. Film noir is associated with
a low key black and white visual style which has a root
in German Expressionist Cinema.

5. German Expressionism is a creative movement which
happened before the first world war. It focuses in fields
such as Architecture, Painting and Cinema. German
Expressionism film movement paralleled expressionist
painting and theatre in rejecting realism. has had a
profound effect on genres such as Film Noir, Horror etc.
and this is evident from the 1920’s film ‘The cabinet of
doctor Cagliari.’

8. Friedrich Christian Anton "Fritz Lang” was a German-
Austrian filmmaker, screenwriter, and film producer. He
also worked as an actor at a time. Lang was born in
Vienna as the second son of his father Anton Lang. In
Hollywood, Lang signed first with MGM Studios. His
first American film was the crime drama Fury, which
starred Spencer Tracy.
