What is the autobiography of your Future? Mary Wheelock
Unit Summary  This unit is designed for 8th grade English Language Arts class. This is unit is designed for a middle class suburban Middle School for a class that consists of a variety of students. Students will learn about different types of writing including narrative writing, professional writing, letter writing, expository writing, and persuasive writing. Students will write in various forms to express understanding of different styles and contexts of writing: including personal and business letters, a narrative, persuasive letter, and an expository letter. All assignments will be related to the students’ future.

Students will learn to express themselves in several different writing styles.
Students will be prepared for writing assignments for preparing for their future.,[object Object]
Alabama Curriculum Standardsfor English Language Arts Grade: 8  7.) Compose a business letter, including heading, inside address, salutation, body, closing, and signature. 8.) Write in narrative, expository, and persuasive modes with attention to descriptive elements. 9.) Apply mechanics in writing, including punctuating titles using quotation marks, underlining, or italics and using semicolons, conjunctive adverbs, and commas to join two independent clauses or to correct run-on sentences. 10.) Use prepositional phrases and compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences to vary sentence structure.
Learning/ Student Objectives Students will list at least three different possible professions they are interested in. (Knowledge) Students will describe aspects or plans for their future. (knowledge) Students will discuss and demonstrate their understanding of writing through their writing and reading projects out loud. (Comprehension) Students will interview one professional to gain knowledge of their future profession. (Application)
Learning Objectives Cont Students will compare various professions. (Analysis)  Students will construct various letters and a resume to show understanding. (Synthesis) Students will evaluate one another’s presentations to offer support.  (Evaluation) Students will argue the validity of their research to the class. (Evaluation)
