Key Message: Title Slide Instructor:Introduce Module
Timing: 1 min max. Key Message: Run through the agenda for the presentation.Instructor: Describe the course agenda.
Timing: 1 min Key Message:The backup and server storage tab provides easy access to backup wizards, and additional move data wizards Instructor: The Backup and Storage tab provides wizards driven tools for managing server backups, adding new hard drives and moving data such as exchange, SharePoint and WSUS to new hard drives and volumes.Slide Transition Note: Lets look at SBS 2011 Backup
Timing: 1 min Key Message:Unexpected events, such as viruses, hardware failures, natural disasters, user error, power outages, and theft, can cause partial or total data loss. The loss of critical system or business data can result in lost revenue and the inability to conduct regular business. To prepare for the possibility of such loss, you should acquire one or more external storage drives and configure them as backup drives.Instructor:You can protect data on the server automatically by running the Configure Server Backup Wizard. The Configure Server Backup Wizard enables you to: Choose the external storage drives where you want to back up your data. Choose whether to back up the full server or only certain drives. Specify a schedule for when you want your backup to run. After you configure your server backup, you can make changes to the backup by using the tasks that are available in the Backup and Server Storage task pane of the Windows SBS Console. Further management includes reviewing the status of the backup, as well as restoration wizards.Slide Transition Note: Lets look a little deeper at Backup media options
Timing: 1 min Key Message:Backup is recommended for one or more external drives to allow off-site storage and rotation Instructor: SBS Server Backup supports external and internal hard disks, and removable media drives. You can no longer back up to tape. To perform a scheduled backup, as a best practice, use an external hard disk that supports either USB 2.0 or IEEE 1394.IMPORTANT: Windows Server 2008 R2 supports backing up to optical media drives , this functionality has not been integrated into the SBS configure your server wizard. GUID. Multiple USB hard disks are recommend for use with SBS. SBS will assign a GUID to each disk and know what data has been backed up to each particular disk. Since these are incremental backups, each disk will contain a full backup of the selected backup drives at the time of the backup. IMPORTANT: The configure your server wizard will format the entire drive selected as the backup drive. These storage drives will not be able to be used for anything else but backups! If multiple disks are connected to the server at the same time, the server will always pick disk#1 (the first one installed). You can check this by clicking on the drives and see which one shows as “active”.Slide Transition Note: Lets look at restore options.
Timing: 1 min Key Message:You can restore individual files, folders, applications and volumes (as well as a bare metal restore). Instructor: To perform recoveries using Windows Server Backup, you must be a member of the Backup Operators or Administrators group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure. If you are recovering your operating system to a new hard disk, make sure the disk is at least as big as the disk that contained the volumes that were backed up, regardless of the size of those volumes. For example, if there was only one volume that was 100 GB on a 1-TB disk during backup, you should use a disk that is at least 1 TB when restoring. If you are using BitLocker Drive Encryption to protect your server and you need to perform a recovery, make sure to reapply BitLocker Drive Encryption to your server. This will not happen automatically—it must be enabled explicitly. Slide Transition Note: Lets look at full server recovery options
Timing: 1 min Key Message:Using the integrated server restore, you can fully restore your server. Instructor:To perform full server recovery of a domain controller (a non-authoritative restore) by using the GUI1. Insert the Windows Server 2008 R2 installation DVD into the disk drive, and then restart the domain controller.2. When you are prompted, press a key to start from the DVD.3. At the initial Windows screen, accept or select language options, the time and currency format, and a keyboard layout, and then click Next.4. At the Install now screen, click Repair your computer.5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click anywhere to clear any operating systems that are selected for repair, and then click Next.6. Under Choose a recovery tool, click Windows Complete PC Restore.7. If the backup is stored on a remote server, a message indicates that Windows cannot find a backup on the hard disks or DVDs on this computer. Click Cancel to close the message.Slide Transition Note: Continued on next slide
Timing: 1 min Key Message:Using the integrated server restore, you can fully restore your server. Instructor: COINTINUED FROM PREVIOU SLIDE8. Click Restore a different backup, and then click Next.9. On the Select the location of the backup page, perform either set of the following steps, depending on whether the backup is stored locally or on a network shared folder:If the backup is stored on the local computer, select the location of the backup, and then click Next.OrIf the backup is stored on a network shared folder, click Advanced, and then click Search for a backup on the network.Click Yes to confirm that you want to connect to the network. In Network Folder, type the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) name for the network share, and then click OK.Type credentials for a user account that has sufficient permissions to restore the backup, and then click OK. On the Select the location of the backup page, click the location of the backup, and then click Next.Click the backup to restore, and then click Next. If you want to replace all data on all volumes, regardless of whether they are included in the backup, on the Choose how to restore the backup page, select the Format and repartition disks check box. To prevent volumes that are not included in the restore from being deleted and re-created, click Exclude Disks, select the check box for the disks that you want to exclude, and then click OK. Click Next, and then click Finish.Select the I confirm that I want to format the disks and restore the backup check box, and then click OK. Slide Transition Note: Lets look at a SBS 2011 Standard Client backup option
Timing: 2 mins. Key Message: SBS with Windows Storage Essentials is suitable for SB’s looking to extend the SBS 2011 Standard solution to included automated client backup, and provide greater flexibility in storage options under a single domain model. Instructor:Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 is a network attached storage appliance that builds upon an optimized release of the Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system. A key member of the Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 family, Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials is the ideal storage server solution to help home-based and small business owners keep important data automatically backed up, protected, organized, and accessible from virtually anywhere. WSS Essentials can help to make sure your data stays safe and protected by scheduling convenient automatic daily backups for your PCs. Easy-to-use restore features make it quick and simple to retrieve and restore files in the event of a disaster or hard drive crash. Based on the same user experience as WHS 2011 and SBS 2011 Essentials, it is a simple choice when wanting to provide integrated client backup. As WSS Essentials can join you SBS 2011 Standard domain, you can also ensure centralized management and configuration as a server on your SBS network.
Timing: 1 min Key Message:Moving Data is simple and effortless with the move data wizard Instructor:By default, all applications are installed on the C:\\ drive on SBS. There is no option to select different drives during the installation in order to keep the deployment as simple as possible. Therefore you have the choice to easily move applications databases and users files to a different drive if you chose so using one of the Move Wizards located in the SBS management console, Backup and Server Storage, Server Storage tab. Slide Transition Note: Lets look at moving data in more detail
Timing: 1 min Key Message:The move data wizard can move exchange, SharePoint, users shared and redirect data as well as the WSUS repository Instructor:The data for the Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard server include the MicrosoftExchange Server data, the Sharepoint Foundation data, the users' shared data, the users' redirected documents data, the Windows updates repository data, and the client backup data. You may want to move the data for any of the following reasons: The server was preinstalled by an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) using one partition, and you want to move the data to a separate drive. You want the operating system to be on a separate drive from your data to make backup easier. You want to move data to a separate partition to optimize the performance of the volume where the Volume Shadow Copy Service is enabled. The drive where the data folders for SBS 2011 Standard server is stored is running out of space. You want to add a higher performance disk or a redundant array of independent disks (RAID) to your server to use for data storage. In this case, you want to install the disks and then move the data folders to the new disks.
Timing: 1 min Key Message:The reports tab gives you access to pre-configures and customized reports Instructor: You can not only view the standard and detailed reports via this tab, but also configure new reports, define the schedule and determine how users access themSlide Transition Note: Lets look at Managing SBS 2011 Standard Reports
Timing: 2 min Key Message:You can configure any customized report you require using the new report generator Instructor: The new report generator can create customized reports for various functions of SBS 2011 Standard. These includeSecurityUpdatesBackupOther AlertsE-Mail UsageServer Event LogsEach of these reports can be scheduled, and emailed both internal and externally as required. You can also determine the archive strategy to keep historical records.
Timing: 1 min Key Message:The security tab allows us to see both the security position of our network, as well as the patching status Instructor: The security tab shows us the overall health of our clients and servers in regards toVirus ProtectionSpywareClient computer firewallSpam protection, andServer firewallYou can alsoView the summary of virus protection for you file systemView summaries of spyware and malware protection, andView server firewall propertiesSlide Transition Note: Lets now look at patch management
Timing: 1 min Key Message:Patch management is configured via the Updates page as part of the Security tab. This integrated in WSUS for all client and server patch management Instructor: Through this tab, you can view the current status of all updates (both server and client), including successful installs, in progress, and any errors. Also you can control the synchronization schedule, as well as the way clients and servers are updated.Slide Transition Note: What can we administer in regards to updates?
Timing: 2 min Key Message:You have complete control over how and when patches are rolled out to both your servers and clients. Instructor: Within the updates page, you can control how patches are managed in your environment. Based on Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) which enables administrators to deploy the latest Microsoft product updates to computers that are running the Windows operating system. You can determine how client and server patched are deployed.By default, the SBS server will download all Critical/Security and Definition updates. They will be auto approved and deployed to all clients, and held for servers until initialed by the administrator. You can also exclude servers and clients from the patch management system, as well and control when the server downloads new patches (by default it is scheduled off hours at 3am).
Key Message: Elicit questions from the audience.Instructor:Timing: As long as necessary.
