Mentor Program
for New Members
R I District 3262
To help a New Member become an Active
Lifetime Rotarian and a Future Rotary leader.
3. To remain viable, a Rotary club must
retain its current members and induct
and retain new, qualified members .
The average Rotary club loses 10% of it’s
members each and every year.
Say a club of 40 inducts 4 new members
a year and 4 members leave, does that
make them a stable club?
4. You were asked by your friend thinking that
you had the right pre-requisities , Interests
to make a good Rotarian.
A research revealed that Rotarians of less
than 5 years are primarily interested in
Networking; Rotarians of 5 to 20 years are
most interested in Service; Rotarians of more
than 20 years are there for Fellowship.
5. Many members who leave within the first
two years do so because they weren’t
fully informed about the responsibilities
of membership before joining .
They were not fully educated about
Rotary after joining. Many have trouble
meeting the attendance requirements and
financial expectations.
6. Still others feel unconnected to the club’s
activities & their networking expectations
aren’t being met.
Solution- INSPIRE – Mentoring Program
Pairing younger new members with older
active members as mentors to help address
new members’ networking expectations,
knowledge of World of Rotary and groom
as future Rotary leaders
7. Successful Mentoring Program should ;
Have 6-10 months timeline
Should be reviewed regularly(Monthly)
Should be geared to actively engage new
member
Increase new member’s knowledge of Rotary
& Ways to serve & become Engaged in Club-
District Meetings, Projects, Programs
8. Successful clubs have Mentoring program
New members need a Go-To person,
someone with knowledge, interest, time.
As Mentor(Senior Rotarian);Be available to
Mentee(New Rotarian),Be there. Meet,
Support, Motivate, Inform & Guide
,Educate, But do not train.
9. To Attend club functions: Informal or
social activity, BOD meeting, Committee
meeting, Project or fundraising activity.
To Participate: Greeter for a day or month,
Do a make-up at another club
To Motivate to Attend District events:
Assembly, District Conference, Seminars,
Foundation dinners.
10. Must be an active Senior Rotarian with capability &
proven interest to Mentor new Rotarians
Must be a good listener, approachable
Over the years as a Rotary leader must have
experience of Rotary Programs/Projects, gained
immense knowledge of Rotary through self interest
& contacts within & outside club, district.
As a senior Rotarian ,Mentor a young leader &
discover yet another reason as Rotary Service
11. A Mentor(Senior Rotarian), Must be available
to his/her Mentee(New Rotarian),Be there.
Meet, Support, Motivate, Inform & Guide
his/her Mentee.
Above all, Educate, do not train Mentee.
