find other like-minded referral partners,
avoiding the amphibians out there?

Some pointers which
will indicate that you
might be kissing a
networking frog
INSOMNIACS
This person is
always asking you
for referrals,
introductions &
favors
but rarely
reciprocates
INSOMNIACS
This person doesn’t
seem to have the
time to sit down &
really learn about
your business, goals,
& ideal customers
INSOMNIACS
When you schedule
face-to-face
meetings, this
person often
reschedules the
night before or the
day of your
appointment
INSOMNIACS
This person takes
forever to return
your phone calls
and emails, if at
all
INSOMNIACS
This person rarely goes out of his/her way to help you,
and seems inconvenienced when complying with
your request for assistance making a connection
INSOMNIACS
This person often
makes you feel like
you're just okay to be
around, and may not be
quite "big enough" for
strong collaboration
INSOMNIACS
This person talks
excessively about
him/herself and him/her
business. S/he rarely
asks you questions.
If s/he does ask, s/he really
doesn’t listen to your
answers.

When you do get
around to sharing
something about your
business,
s/he quickly turns your
comment into a chance
to move the spotlight
back on him/herself
INSOMNIACS
At networking events, this person is hunting for new
prospects, shaking hands, and passing out as many
business cards as possible, moving quickly from person
to person
INSOMNIACS
When you exchange business cards with this person,
s/he doesn't even glance at your card, never makes a
written note on the back, and quickly tucks it away in
a pocket
INSOMNIACS
While you are with this person, s/he is always looking
around to see who else s/he can be meeting, rather than
focusing his/her attention on you with continued eye
contact
INSOMNIACS
You always feel a little slimy after an encounter
with a networking frog
INSOMNIACS
How can you be sure that you are a
networking prince or princess and not a
frog?
INSOMNIACS

of what the networking frog does

1. Always give referrals and make
introductions for your referral
partners (many times before they
even ask)
2. Constantly go out of your way to
help people with their businesses
3. Invest time and energy to learn
what your referral partners are
looking for in a potential client
4. Make you referrals partners really
feel listened to and focus on
him/her
A great example of networking royalty
INSOMNIACS
5. Allow your referral partner to force
you to share you about your business
and how they can help you
6. Follow up on referrals they send you
in a timely manner, and return their
calls/emails immediately if not then
within a day
7. At a networking event, introduce
your referral partners to others, and
just being generally helpful.
Your referral partners should
feel like royalty!

  • 4. How do you become networking royalty and find other like-minded referral partners, avoiding the amphibians out there? INSOMNIACS
  • 5. Some pointers which will indicate that you might be kissing a networking frog INSOMNIACS
  • 6. This person is always asking you for referrals, introductions & favors but rarely reciprocates INSOMNIACS
  • 7. This person doesn’t seem to have the time to sit down & really learn about your business, goals, & ideal customers INSOMNIACS
  • 8. When you schedule face-to-face meetings, this person often reschedules the night before or the day of your appointment INSOMNIACS
  • 9. This person takes forever to return your phone calls and emails, if at all INSOMNIACS
  • 10. This person rarely goes out of his/her way to help you, and seems inconvenienced when complying with your request for assistance making a connection INSOMNIACS
