Chaturthi which falls on the fourth day of the

Ganesh Chaturthi is a ten-day celebration.
3. Ganesh Chaturthi was being celebrated as
a public event by Peshvas in Pune since the
times of Shivaji Maharaj
With the fall of the Peshwas, Ganesh
Chaturthi lost state patronage and became a
private family celebration.
Indian freedom fighter and social reformer
Lokmanya Tilak introduced a new way of
celebrating the Ganapati festival as
collective community worship.

So popular that the Mauritian government
proclaimed Ganesh Chaturthi day as a public
holiday.

Sri Manikka Vinayakar temple in Paris celebrates the
occassion in a grand manner
Lord Ganesh is mounted on a chariot which is pulled
through the streets
Numerous devotees of the Lord accompany his idol,
dancing and singing "bhajans“

10. Two to three months before ,plaster of Paris
models of Lord Ganesha are made by specially
skilled artisans.
Beautifully decorated and Lord Ganesh is
depicted in different poses.
The size of these statues may vary from 3/4 of
an inch to over 70 feet.
On the visarjan day (2nd , 5th , 7th or 10th day),
statue is taken through streets in a procession
accompanied with dancing, singing, and fanfare
Immersed in river or sea symbolizing a ritual
see-off journey towards his abode in Kailash
shouting "Ganapati Bappa Morya, Pudhachya
