Wind in the tree tops was made by Emily Carr in 1930
using oil paints. The painting has many abstract
trees, and one specific tree that lights up in a bright
white light in the background. The trees don’t not
look anything like real life trees, which makes this
painting so unique. I like this painting because it
makes it makes me feel peaceful and relaxed
because of the wonderful design in the trees and
atmosphere.
4. Painting#2
Red cedar was painted by Emily Carr in
1933 using oil paints. This painting shows a
great image of a large red cedar tree in a
calm forest. The painting has many shades
of green and brownish red. It highlights a
single tree amongst a forest of trees. It is
somewhat abstract as the tree leaves look
like waves. I feel calm looking at this
because of the many shades of green and
the fact that it is in the outdoors.

One World One Hope was created by Joe
Average in 1994 using archival pigment ink
on cotton rag fine art paper. This painting
shows many sections of partial faces that
combine together to create one whole
face. The painting uses bright primary
colors. I like this painting because of how
simple and basic it is. This art piece makes
me feel happy because of the vivid colors.

Me was made by Joe Average in 2010
using archival pigment ink on cotton rag
fine art paper. The painting shows a self
portrait of Joe Average himself. The
painting has many cold colors like the
light and dark blue which stands out
because of the warm light orange and
yellow hair. I do not like this painting
because it makes me depressed. The sad
face mixed with the cool colors makes
me feel depressed.
9. Painting #1
Haida Raven, or Xuuya, a native inspired
painting, was made by Bill Reid in 1973 using
serigraph on paper (a technique of printing
using silkscreen). This painting shows an
interesting picture of a Haida Raven looking
as if it is about to take flight. The painting has
many thick red and black lines and the
shapes have many designs within them.
This painting makes me feel awake. The fact
that the artist used only two colors and
sharp lines to outline the shapes, makes the
artwork pop out.
10. Painting#2
Haida Grizzly Bear, or Xhuwaji, was made
by Bill Reid in 1990 using serigraph on
paper. This native painting shows some
sort of animal that looks like it is crouching
into a ball. The painting has many thin and
thick lines and also only has two
colors, including red and black. This art
piece does not inspire me. I do not know
how this represents a bear especially since
the image is in a sphere shape.
