 Warm  up: Attempt to read a section of the
 primary source. What is this? What do you
 think it was used for? Can you connect it to
 anything we’ve read in Romeo and Juliet?

 Today’sobjective is to read Act II Scenes i-ii,
 discuss the courting customs of Elizabethan
 England, and answer written questions
 regarding literary devices and theme.
 Make note of any compliments that seem as
 if they could from a handbook such as The
 Mysteries of Love: The Art of Wooing and
 Complimenting.
 In pairs, discuss the compliments you found
  in the reading. Next write think of any
  modern day forms of such texts. Where do
  young people learn to woo one another
  today? Are these texts useful or harmful?
