Global Warming By: Brenden Sawadski And Keely Londino
What is the greenhouse effect? Climate change? Global warming? Greenhouse effect-the atmosphere has a natural supply of “greenhouse gases” that capture the Sun’s radiation and keep the surface of the Earth warm enough to live on. Climate change-seasonal changes over a long period of time Global warming-when there are too many greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which absorb to much radiation that could raise the global temperature over time
How are each (greenhouse effect, climate change, global warming) related? Humans are adding more unnecessary greenhouse gases to the atmosphere, accelerating the greenhouse effect, which is causing global warming. Global warming is causing the global temperature to rise, causing climate change.
What are the primary causes of global warming? Pollution: Burning fossil fuels (non-renewable resources such as coal, oil, gas, etc.) gives off carbon dioxide, a well-known pollutant. The gas methane, another natural pollutant, escapes from underground when we mine for coal and oil. Using electricity often burns fossil fuels, so wasting it is unnecessary pollution. Population: More people=more food Manure used to grow food on farms gives of methane. More people=more transportation Having more cars means there will be more pollution, especially since many people have more than one car. We breathe out CO2 that trees and plants absorb, but deforestation used to make space for homes demolishes plantation
What are the possible consequences if we do not work to stop global warming? Sea levels could rise icecaps are melting An increase in ocean temperatures could affect different sea animals, which could affect our food supply Severe weather patterns: warmer temperatures an cause an increase in storms and flooding Warmer winters and hotter summers Rising temperatures could affect agriculture because they could cause certain plants to stop producing fruit. This would also affect us and other living things.
How is global warming impacting the economy? Global warming can largely affect the economy in farming. The concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere causes an increase in plant growth, causing many farmers to have an abnormal growing season. This extreme growth of food, like corn and beans, causes an increase in cost of production, which then results in prices of the food rising. Insects, severe drought, and scarcity of water can also cause productivity losses.
What are ways we can all fight global warming? Some easy ways to help fight global warming: Dress warmly during the winter and coolly during the summer so you do not have to turn up the heat or air conditioning in your home too high Wash clothes in cold water Dry clothes on a clothesline Use windows for light instead of lamps and electric lighting during the day Dry your hair with a towel instead of a hair-dryer Take public transport, ride a bike, or ride a motorcycle for transportation Eat local foods that do not have to be transported long distances
What is the basic argument against global warming? Basically, the argument against global warming says that it is a hoax and money could be wasted trying to fix a problem that may not be real. Many believe efforts to try to fix this issue would be more of a waste of money than a productive help to the planet. Groups such as the American Policy Roundtable have found data and temperature patterns that do not show any effects of global warming at all, and believe that small amounts of global warming could be beneficial to the Earth.
What are our personal opinions about global warming? We believe that global is real and will affect us in the future. Examples of this are rising sea levels because of the icecaps melting, increasing ocean temperatures, warmer winters, and hotter summers.
