3. Greenhouse Gases/Climate Change/Global Warming, Related? All have to do with heating and cooling of the Earth All happening right now Burning fossil fuels pours out greenhouse gases at a life-threatening rate and causing global warming
4. Primary Causes Increase in greenhouse gases, which traps heat in the atmosphere Humans are burning more fossil fuels
5. Possible Consequences Rising sea levels Melting arctic sea ice Warm winters Rising ocean temperatures Severe weather
6. Impact on Economy Polar caps melts along the Northwest Passage which makes for cheaper shipping costs Longer summers led to an increase in allergy season and increased health care costs for people with asthma and allergies Global warming increases the size and frequency of hurricanes, which means more money is needed to pay to fix the hurricane damage Some people invest a lot of money in stopping global warming
7. Ways We Can Fight It Let your representatives in Congress know you support federal action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions Turn down the AC when you leave the house If you're not into getting a "recycled" appliance, buy one with the Energy Star label Put in compact fluorescent bulbs Plug chargers into power strips with an on/off switch. A power strip in the off mode uses zero juice. Cool your home by planting a tree where the sun hits most directly. Buy in bulk. Use a ceiling fan for cooling a room. Buy "recycled." Don't use hot water when cold water would work too.
8. Basic Arguments Against It Most scientists do not believe human activities threaten to disrupt the Earth’s climate. Our most reliable sources of temperature data show no global warming trend. Global climate computer models are too crude to predict future climate changes. The IPCC did not prove that human activities are causing global warming. A modest amount of global warming, should it occur, would be beneficial to the natural world and to human civilization. Efforts to quickly reduce human greenhouse gas emissions would be costly and would not stop Earth’s climate from changing. Efforts by state governments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are even more expensive and threaten to bust state budgets. The best strategy to pursue is “no regrets.”
9. Personal Opinions We believe that there is no global warming trend forming and that it will not affect human life on Earth. There are just a lot of myths about global warming but majority aren’t true. We also do not believe that humans are causing global warming.
