The solution creates a trusted view of all k12 education data—such as data on students, employees, and institutions.
Captures and links data that resides in different data systems to create a comprehensive and meaningful view of students, faculty, and schools to positively impact outcomes and improve service delivery.
Provides unparalleled visibility into the relationships among data even when that data is stored in different formats and multiple systems.
2. Solution Overview
The solution creates a trusted view of all
k12 education data—such as data on
students, employees, and institutions.
Captures and links data that resides in
different data systems to create a
comprehensive and meaningful view of
students, faculty, and schools to positively
impact outcomes and improve service
delivery.
Provides unparalleled visibility into the
relationships among data even when that
data is stored in different formats and
multiple systems.
We have implemented the P20 SLDS for the
State of West Virginia, Fairfax County Public
Schools, and other school districts in the US.
3. Data Quality Engine
The solution conforms data across multiple
sources and across multiple agencies and addresses
operational challenges integrating data across
multiple systems
Quality rule and reference tables validates common
data quality issues found with student and school
data sets including demographics, programs,
awards, and financial aid
Quality scorecards with detailed visualizations and
notifications help monitor a variety of metrics to
ensure data quality.
We have developed a SLDS quality accelerator for
customers with Informatica Data Quality and
implemented custom quality management solutions
using Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle.
4. Master Data Management Engine
Master Data Management creates a unique statewide
system of identification including cross-reference
unique identifiers established by various state agencies
and systems.
The solution uses Informatica master data management
to create and maintain golden records for students,
parents, staff, and employees
Trusted master data is then synchronized with the
data warehouse and even downstream with other
applications.
We have developed an SLDS accelerator for Informatica
MDM and integrated solutions using matching
algorithms used in Florida’s Statewide P20 Data
Warehouse and West Virginia’s P20 Data Warehouse.

5. Data Warehouse Engine
The solution loads ll data required for reporting and
analysis into an open, comprehensive, multi-dimensional,
statewide education data warehouse engine.
Automated ETL processes keep the data updated and
organized so that it may be managed consistently over
time.
Each facet of information in the warehouse may be related
to additional characteristics over time to facilitate data
management, reporting and analysis. In essence, the
warehouse stores outcomes so they may be measured
consistently over time.
We have installed the data warehouse engine on both
Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle Databases and have
experience integrating data into the warehouse using
various enterprise ETL frameworks from Microsoft,
Informatica, Oracle and IBM.
6. Data Discovery Engine
The solution enables agencies to identify common
factors, characteristics, and other data points to
pinpoint performance problems, diagnose at-risk
programs, and improve services.
The data discover engine is used to Improve decision
making and predict outcomes based on trends, data
patterns, and the ability to link multiyear data, and
encourages a more collaborative and organic
approach to data discovery.
We have developed reports and analysis* against the
data using traditional off-the-shelf business intelligence
tools such as IBM Cognos, Tableau, SAP Business
Objects, Oracle Business Intelligence, and others.
* Examples are shown in the following slides
7. Example Report: Cognos Portal Home Page
This is an example IBM Cognos Business
Intelligence Portal home page developed
using Cognos 10.
The home page lets users navigate to the
various subject areas in the SLDS. In
addition to organizing all of the SLDS
reports referenced on the Web Portal, the
IBM Cognos BI Portal also provides
authorized users with advanced report
authoring, analysis and query capability.
8. Example Report: High School Feedback Dashboard
The High School Feedback dashboard was
developed for the state of West Virginia and
provides users with quick access to a range
of formatted reports they can download and
share with stakeholders.
KPI’s on county graduation rates are
displayed on a map of their state and
selected cohorts are displayed for
monitoring high school retention.
9. Example Report: Performance Descriptors of Interest
This table is from a PDF report created to
show High School Performance Descriptors
of interest.
In this specific case, the table compares
cohorts of high school students whom are
dually enrolled in college courses.
10. Example Report: College Readiness
This is an example summary report of
students who are college ready and entering
college in their first year.
College readiness in this example is
determined by ACT and SAT cut scores.
11. Example Report: Student Debt Comparison
This is an example from an interactive
dashboard developed for the State of West
Virginia that compares annual and
cumulative debt between in-state and out of
state students
12. Example Report: Adhoc Analysis of Course Participation
This is an example of how a business analyst
would use Cognos Analysis studio to
perform ad-hoc queries on course
participation against the multi-dimensional
longitudinal database.
13. Example Report Adhoc Analysis of Student Enrollment
This is an example of how a business analyst
would use Cognos Analysis studio to
perform ad-hoc queries on student
enrollment by grade level against the multi-dimensional
longitudinal database.
14. Example Report: Adhoc Analysis of Student
Performance
This is an example of how a business
analyst would use Cognos Analysis
studio to perform ad-hoc queries on
student assessments by proficiency
level against the multi-dimensional
longitudinal database.
15. Example Report: Cohort Trends
This example report shows trends of various
high school graduate cohorts over time.
16. Example Report: Cohort Trends (Tableau)
This example report shows trends of student
cohorts over time in a dashboard format
developed with Tableau.
