2. Where Is Sochi?
Sochi is located in Krasnodar Region in Russia’s
South. It is situated between the Black Sea and
the Caucasus Mountains just north of Russia’s
border with Georgia. You can find it by looking
at a map of Russia, identifying the Black
Sea, and following the Black Sea Coast north
from Georgia.

4. What is Sochi Like?
Climate - Sochi has a subtropical climate, but
it still experiences winter. The 2014 winter
Olympic games takes place in
February, which means the temperature in
Sochi during that time will average 40
degrees F.

5. Geography of Sochi
Geography - Sochi is a resort city located in
the Russian Federal Subject of Krasnodar
Kari. Sochi stretches 90 miles along the sea
and is considered one of the longest cities in
Europe. The city of Sochi covers a total area
of 1,352 sq. miles.

6. Culture
Culture – Russian culture is
rich, spanning centuries of Russian
history. Russian culture encompasses
art, food, traditions, literature, attit
udes and more. Russian culture is
visually stunning, from its colorful folk
costumes to its elaborate religious
symbols.

7. Common Food in Russia
• Russian kebabs are called shashlyk. Like
common kebabs , they can be a
combination of meat and vegetables.
• Pelmeni are pastry dumplings usually
filled with meatballs.
• Borshch is beet soup, and one of the
most famous Russian traditional foods.

8. Government
Vladimir Putin is the current President of Russia.
He is a Russian politician who has served Russia
since 1999.

9. Ancient Olympics:
• The first Olympic Games were held in
Olympia, Greece and can be traced back to
776 B.C. the games included were
jumping, discus
throw, wrestling, boxing, pankration which is a
form a form of martial arts combining
wrestling and boxing. Also there is equestrian
events which included horse races and chariot
races.

10. Modern Olympics:
• There are 86 Winter Olympic games in the
year 2014. Some of them are Speed
Skating, Curling, Figure Skating, Ice
Hockey, Cross Country Skating, Bobsleigh, and
Ski Jumping.
