Reusing an H5P Learning Object
One of H5P's most powerful attributes is the ability to reuse or repurpose an existing H5P activity.
There are a few steps necessary to reuse or repurpose an H5P for your needs.
1. Acquire or Locate and download an existing H5P
2. Open the H5P in an editor and make required changes
3. Save the updated H5P with a different file name
Save the H5P learning object with a different name. Both the original H5P and the new H5Ps are
still available.
1. Acquire an H5P Activity
2. Open an H5P learning object
3. Look for the Reuse link at the bottom right of the H5P display
4. Click on the Reuse link
5. In the Reuse content pop up, click on the Download as an .h5P file link
6. The H5P file downloads to your computer or device
2. Open & Edit the H5P Activity
Note: If you can edit H5P objects, you can skip this section
This is a sample of a reedit of an H5P activity. All activities will vary.
In the example below, the teacher wishes to change a formative dictation activity into an
assessment. To make this an assessment activity, they will
• remove the Show solution (feedback) button
• remove the Retry button
• set the number of Maximum listening tries to 1
• remove the slow pace listening clip

1. Open an H5P editor
Note: Lumi in this example
2. Click on the H5P Editor Start link
3. Click on the Open H5P File link
4. Locate the H5P file in the directory. Select it and click on the Open button.
Note: This step may vary based on your operating system.
5. Ensure that the EDIT screen is active
6. The editing screen appears with many of the fields filled out. Ensure that the Title reflects the
new activity. In the Title text box, type the new title.
7. Type a replacement Task description for this assessment

8. For the dictation Sentence Description, there does not have to be directions text here as it is
already in the Task description for this assessment
9. Starting at the first Section option, click on the close icon
on the Sound sample slow icon
10. In the Remove file pop up, click on the Confirm button
11. Repeat this for each Sound sample slow sentence
12. Expand the Behavioural settings section.
13. Set the Maximum tries to 1
14. Set the Shuffle sentence setting to Once when starting the exercise
15. Uncheck the Enable “retry” check box
16. Uncheck the Enable “Show solution“ button check box
17. Choose the View option to preview the H5P activity

18. The activity is now ready for students taking an assessment
3. Save the updated H5P with a different file name
Note: In your editor, save the H5P file with a new name
1. In LUMI, click on the File option in the menu bar
2. Click on Save as…
3. Type in the name
4. Click on the Save button
