3. COM COMENÇA TOT
PELE per millorar la llengua oral 2007-2010
Auxiliar de conversa curs 2008-2009
PAC
Desig d’ampliar el projecte a altres
departaments
Motivació del professorat d’altres matèries
4. TREBALL PREVI
Curs 2009-2010: presentació del projecte a
les reunions de caps de departament
Formació d’un primer equip de treball amb
professorat interessat que compleix els
requisits
Informació al claustre i aprovació
Elaboració i presentació del projecte VOICES
5. DE QUÈ ESTEM PARLANT?
11 professors
1 professor visitant nord-americà el segon
any
6 departaments
Tots els nivells d’ESO
Projecte flexible, adaptat a les circumstàncies
de cada curs
6. COM ES COORDINA TOT AIXÒ
Curs 2010-2011. No hi ha coordinació
presencial a l’horari. Tot és virtual i/o fora
d’hores
Curs 2011-2012. Dos grups de treball
coordinats cada un per una professora
d’anglès i el professor visitant
Curs 2012-2013. El mateix que el curs
anterior, però amb una gran diferència: ens
falta el professor visitant

23. COM HO VEIA EL BRANDON
Discovering Science…in English!
The students of 1er ESO are having fun finding out about natural
science through experiments, videos, songs and games, and they’re
doing it in English! Science is one of the five subjects that are being
offered in English at the IES Enric Borràs as part of the PELE Project
2010-2013. Unlike the other subjects, which are optional, all the
students in 1er ESO are required to take Science in English for one
hour a week. This serves a dual purpose by increasing the students’
exposure to the English language, while maintaining the learning
objectives of the regular curriculum. At the beginning of the school year,
the kids were shy about using English to speak with their teachers and
classmates, but they are able to understand their lessons regardless of
the change in language of instruction. Now, little by little, through
hands-on activities involving pair- and group work, the pupils are finding
their voices as well.
24. DISCOVERING SCIENCE
A typical lesson on the properties of plant cells begins with the students
watching a short video in English that tells them everything they need to know to
carry out an experiment. After watching the video, the students recall the names
of materials they need and write out the procedure in their own words. This is
done as a class so that students who may not have understood the directions
the first time have an additional opportunity to listen as their colleagues repeat
the instructions in simpler language. The class forms hypotheses about which
parts of plant cells they will be able to observe through the microscope and what
they expect to find out about plant cells. Next, the students ask their teachers
for the materials: a slice of onion peel, some blue dye, a microscope slide, an
eyedropper… and carry out the experiment on their own. After the experiment
the pupils write their conclusions and report back to the class what they were
able to see. Those who have trouble putting their results into words draw and
label a diagram. After class, the students chatter eagerly in their own languages,
comparing what they saw through the lens of the microscope. They smile and
wave, “Goodbye, Teacher!” as they walk out the door.
