In the last class you learned about Freudian psychology and discussed the
ways in which the main characters in Lord of the Flies represent the id, ego,
and superego. Today we will continue to discuss Lord of the Flies as a
psychological allegory by discussing the beast before discussing the ways in
which the characters embody common archetypes.

earlier in the semester. What archetypes do you see
appearing in so far in Lord of the Flies? How do you see
characters embracing these archetypes? Refer to specific
scenes from the novel to illustrate your ideas.
