If you talk to anyone who knows me well or has worked with me for long, theyâll tell you I have a habit of thinking in threes.
Sometimes itâs a curse (ask my wife) but honestly, itâs been a blessing to me throughout my career.
Itâs given me a powerful framework to use when simplifying a complex situation, when deciding which priorities are critical
(and which are not), and especially when communicating in almost any setting. As a rule of thumb, most people canât
remember more than three things, so this framework also helps remind me to keep things simple.
â3 Big Thingsâ is how I once described my companyâs priorities. The message was inspired by Steven Coveyâs âbig rocksâ
story â make room for the big rocks first and you can fill lots of small pebbles around them. It was simple. It was memorable.
It was POWERFUL.
Some of the most enduring contributions I have made in my career involve the development and communication of
strategies which could be understood and embraced by everyone in the organization. Unlike many outputs of strategic
planning processes, these particular strategies leapt off the pages and became a battle cry for the organization. They allowed
people to come to work every day knowing how to contribute in their job, and empowered them to make decisions that
supported the companyâs strategy.
The power of a completely aligned organization is unbelievable! And itâs my hope that yours operates like that. If it
doesnât, we can help.

8. About our Principal
Miles P. Faust is the principal owner of 3BT Consulting. 3BT is a new venture for Mr. Faust, who has spent the last 25 years building brands and
businesses through smart strategies, clear communication and an unrelenting focus on improving execution for leading Consumer Products companies.
Prior to starting 3BT, Mr. Faust was General Manager of Energizer Battery Companyâs Global Lighting Products business unit, where Energizer held
the leading share of the worldâs portable lighting market. Under Mr. Faustâs leadership, Energizer successfully expanded depth and breadth of
distribution, and increased focus on premium branded products. This strategy led to a 40% increase in profit contribution in 2008 and helped Energizer
seize market leadership from one of the most iconic US brands â MAG-LITEÂŽ.
Energizerâs Lighting Products business unit has annual sales of approximately $180 million globally, with roughly two-thirds of margins generated
outside the US. The business unit manufactures and markets portable lighting products under the Energizer ÂŽ, EvereadyÂŽ and SoncaÂŽ brands. Sonca
Products Limited is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Energizer based in Hong Kong which provides product development and engineering services and
operates the largest flashlight manufacturing complex in China. Soncaâs operations were integrated into the Lighting Products business unit and were
under Mr. Faustâs leadership.
Upon joining Energizer Battery Company in 1998, Mr. Faust held a series of leadership roles both in the US and Europe. He joined Energizer as
Group Vice President (Sales) - Grocery Channel, and was later named Group Vice President â Global Accounts.
In 2000, he relocated to the United Kingdom to serve as Sales Director, and later Managing Director, of Energizerâs UK operation. In this role he
led a transformation of the companyâs business and market position where Energizer grew from a little-known brand to challenge Duracell for market
leadership.
Upon his return to the US in 2003, he was named Vice President â Walmart, where he was responsible for Energizerâs business with Walmart and
Samâs Club worldwide. Subsequently he served as Vice President - Trade Marketing for North America, before moving into his last role in 2007.
Prior to his career at Energizer, Mr. Faust held numerous sales, sales management and trade marketing assignments in multiple categories at both
Ralston Purina Company and Beecham Products USA.
Mr. Faust is a native of southern Louisiana, and a graduate of Loyola University New Orleans. He and his wife Gina reside in St. Louis with their
teenage children Allison and Michael. He spends most of his free time with family, usually involving some combination of travel, sports, cooking or
fishing.
