2. In 1957 a committee recommended the consolidation of the two library
collections, (Flint Junior College and the University of Michigan-Flint) and
proposed a library director be appointed to direct both libraries.

9. In 1958 the Flint Board of Education
approved preliminary plans for a
three-story building. The architect was
then asked to reduce the structure to two
stories.

outside of the
building was
covered with an
imported Italian
marble mosaic
known as Fulget.

26. A gift of $1,000,000 from Charles Stewart
Mott to the Flint Board of Education
made the construction of the Mott Library

28. The building originally did not have an air-conditioning system, but was
designed so AC equipment could be installed without difficulty in the
future. In 1964 air conditioning was installed.
