- KG Pillay â a Maths and Science teacher from Durban went on to win the Innovation in Community category at the Worldwide finals. His learners come from disadvantaged backgrounds, and few have textbooks although most have cell phones. To overcome this he has made maths and science content downloadable on to cell phones through his www.mlearner.co.za website. Learners can get key information, complete online tests and get instant results â all for minimal cost.
- This Canadian maths teacher used a graphing programme to get his learners excited about maths. Learners were required to find or draw a picture â and then recreate it â line by line â by writing a mathematical expression which was then plotted on a graph. This teacher had done a similar activity for years using good old fashioned graph paper, but found that his learners loved seeing their results on screen and manipulating their equations to draw the picture they had chosen.
