          Story summary
A book with surprising and surreal illustrations. It describes the way woman are
treated in some families. Hidden in the illustrations are little pigs, can you find
          them?

          Review
How could there be happiness in a family where the mother is overwhelmed by
cooking, serving meals, ironing, cleaning, receiving orders by her husband and
sons and also going to work outside every day?
Mr Piggott and his two boys show no respect for Mrs. Piggott and take for granted
the continuous service that she silently offers every moment of her life, cooking,
ironing, cleaning, and working at a job, every day? Then something happens that
changes everyone’s behavior. Mrs. Piggott leaves the house. For the father and the
boys a new experience begins without a servant who cares for all their needs, one
of difficulties and despair. Soon the house is like a pig-sty, inhabited by pigs. Then
Mrs. Piggott comes back, the family embarks on a completely different and joyful
          lifestyle that respects Mrs Piggott.

          Story summary
A beautiful set of artistic “collage constructions” show a boy who visits a special
island in a boat, accompanied by his father. The island houses a million year old
forest. The boy loves it and wonders if the forest will survive in our time.

          Review
In a beautiful Australian island, there has been a forest for over a hundred million
years. Few people can go there, since the island can only be reached by boat and
this may be the reason why it is still well preserved. A boy goes with his father to
this wonderful world and, stimulated by his dad’s narration, he can see, through
his imagination, the crocodiles and the kangaroos that used to live there.
He goes by himself deep into the forest and imagines how life was ages ago. He
plays by climbing inside huge trees and watching ancient aboriginal children
through his imagination. Then, he comes back to his father who is barbecuing
some fish. The boy is sad not only that the day is ending and he has to go back
home, but also because he sees, in his vivid mind, the possibility that hotels and
modern infrastructures and pollution will destroy the trees, beauty, silence and
wonder of his beautiful island. Please, enjoy discovering the boy’s imagination
through the transparency of the book’s collage images!

A mouse walks in a forest and could become dinner for the other animals, but he
survives thanks to a brilliant strategy.

          Review
A mouse is walking in a deep dark forest and the other, larger animals, want to eat
him. How can he survive?nYou will see that he is very, very smart: he tells all the
animals that he meets that he has an appointment with a hungry Gruffalo, right
where they are now talking. The mouse describes the Gruffalo as a huge terrifying
beast, extremely frightening. The mouse describes the Gruffalo so well that the
animals believe that such a creature exists and run away. So the mouse continues
to walk happily in the forest. But what happens when he actually does meet the
Gruffalo? Ha, ha...the mouse is a genius....

Hannah hopes to spend time with her father, but he is always too busy. But
something amazing happens during the night before her birthday and, in the
morning, she goes to the zoo with her father and then she is happy.

          Review
Hannah is a very lonely child, since her father cannot spend time with her: he
works very hard the whole week and is too tired to play with his daughter at the
weekend. Hannah loves gorillas and asks her father for one, as a present, for her
birthday. That night she wakes up and finds her present, but the gorilla is just a
toy. So, she throws it into a corner and goes back to sleep. During the night
something happens: a gorilla, wearing her father’s coat and hat, comes and takes
her to the zoo. They also go to the cinema, a restaurant and they even dance.
Hannah has never been so happy and, finally, goes back to sleep. In the morning,
Hannah’s father wakes her and really takes her to the zoo!

The book contains three stories but only the first one is reviewed: The Tale of
Peter Rabbit. Peter is one of the four little rabbit brothers. He goes into a
forbidden place: Mr McGregor’s garden, and risks his life.
          Review
All Beatrice Potter’s stories are set in the Lake District in North West England. This
area is renowned for its stunning natural beauty of lakes and mountains, were
wild animals can still live in nature in peace. The mother of four little rabbits,
Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-tail and Peter, warns them not to go into Mr McGregor’s
garden. This country garden, full of wonderful foods loved by rabbits, is a place of
danger and led to the death of the rabbit’s father by Mr. McGregor the owner. The
four rabbits go for a walk while the mother goes to the baker. Peter cannot resist
the forbidden garden and creeps in and starts to eat the good foods especially the
parsley, but Mr McGregor arrives! Will he survive? Find out what happens and
          enjoy the timeless, beautiful illustrations?

          About the author
Beatrix Potter. A little girl in Victorian England, was taught at home by
governesses and studied art. In 1893 she wrote The Tale of Peter Rabbit in a
illustrated letter to a little boy she knew who had been ill for a long time. In 1901
she privately printed 250 copies of the tale in time for Christmas. The Tale of
Peter Rabbit was published by Frederick Warne & Co. in 1902 with an initial 8000
copies printed and the tale has never been out of print since. The popularity of
Beatrix Potter's stories and characters has grown immeasurably since she
published The Tale of Peter Rabbit over 100 years ago.

          Review
Tiddler, a little fish, arrives late for school everyday and makes up a story each
day to explain why he is late. Nobody believes his stories, although Little Johnny
Dory a school-mates, likes his stories and tells them to his grandmother.
One morning, while thinking of the daily story to explain why he is late again,
Tiddler gets caught in a fisherman’s net. Poor Tiddler! But the fisherman throws
him back into the sea because he is too small.
Tiddler finds himself lost in the middle of the frightening ocean and hides in the
seaweed. How can he get home safely? Then he hears a story, it’s his story told
by Little Johnny Dory to his grandmother who has told it to someone else. Maybe
there is a way for Tiddler to get back home?

The island houses a million year old forest. The boy loves it and wonders if the forest will survive in our time. Review In a beautiful Australian island, there has been a forest for over a hundred million years. Few people can go there, since the island can only be reached by boat and this may be the reason why it is still well preserved. A boy goes with his father to this wonderful world and, stimulated by his dad’s narration, he can see, through his imagination, the crocodiles and the kangaroos that used to live there. He goes by himself deep into the forest and imagines how life was ages ago. He plays by climbing inside huge trees and watching ancient aboriginal children through his imagination. Then, he comes back to his father who is barbecuing some fish. The boy is sad not only that the day is ending and he has to go back home, but also because he sees, in his vivid mind, the possibility that hotels and modern infrastructures and pollution will destroy the trees, beauty, silence and wonder of his beautiful island. Please, enjoy discovering the boy’s imagination through the transparency of the book’s collage images! About the author Jeannie Baker (1950) was born in England and now lives in Australia.
