Whether we like it or not, life is like a game with rules, challenges, and scores – so let’s take the advantage and make it FUN! Gamification captures measurement, behavior analysis, and engagement in ways that can provide a real-time understanding of performance, generate needed change, and enable organizations to meet their objectives.
New examples emerge daily of gamification innovation used to tackle challenging problems ranging from brand loyalty to employee engagement to quality life for patients with chronic illness. In fact, gamification may prove to be one of the most effective means for educating and creating real change in a broad area of applications.
Gamification is at the beginning of what will likely become an incredibly successful industry. Organizations will seek designers to help them explore the potential of gaming technology and ideas that produce behavioral and attitudinal change in education, talent development, productivity, and even, quality of life.

Michael Wu – Definition of Gamification www.lithium.com
Gamification is the use of game attributes to drive game-like player behavior in a non-game context. This definition has three components:
“The use of game attributes,” which includes game mechanics/dynamics, game design principles, gaming psychology, player journey, game play scripts and storytelling, and/or any other aspects of games
“To drive game-like player behavior,” such as engagement, interaction, addiction, competition, collaboration, awareness, learning, and/or any other observed player behavior during game play
“In a non-game context,” which can be anything other than a game (e.g. education, work, health and fitness, community participation, civic engagement, volunteerism, etc.)

For me, one of the most powerful things that gamification has to offer is its ability to help you design systems with low entry barriers. If I can learn a system in a controlled way that is easy and engaging rather than reading a manual – then the entry barrier has lowered for me. If getting some points and badges amuses me enough to take a second look at a system, then a barrier has been lowered. The barrier to getting noticed in an organization can be lowered if I appear at the top of a leaderboard about my chosen speciality that the whole company can see.
A fitness app, like Zombies Run, lowers the mental barrier I may have about getting fit – because it is enjoyable.

objective - to make anyone aware of the basic steps in responding to a situation where someone (probably a stranger) suffers a cardiac arrest or choking.
This multi award winning training utilizes gaming principles in some of the most effective ways:
‘Crisis simulator’: Live action, totally immersive movie approach which you can play like a game
Immersive interactive scenario approach: Throws the learner straight into the middle of the action.
Strong use of character and story: With different scenarios which the learner can select from a menu.
Learn by doing model: Provides a sequence of decision points where if you make the right decision you save a life, and if you don’t someone dies.
Beat the clock: The decision objects are timed to simulate the real event where time is of the essence and making swift decisions can help save a life.
Lots of dynamic feedback: Number of answers right first time, average time to answer and provides a break down of your scores at the end.
