Google Keep is a useful app that lets you keep different kinds of notes. It is similar to the very popular Evernote app, except Keep is simpler and
integrates with Google Drive.
How to Install Google Keep
Installation is very simple.
1. Open Google Play from your Android phone
2. Search for Keep
3. On the search results, open the one whose author is Google
4. Click Install

Upon first execution, Keep will prompt for which account to associate with it. Keep saves everything on Google Drive, so the account you pick is
where all content will be saved.
Getting Acquainted with Keep’s User Interface
Keep’s UI has two parts:
1. Toolbar on top
2. the Notes area where all the notes are presented
The format of notes look like Google Now’s Card interface.

Creating a New Note
To create a new note, simply pick the type of note from the toolbar.
From left to right, the four note types are as follows:

1. Freeform Text – Simple text notes
2. Checklist – Checklist of items
3. Voice Recording – Voice that gets translated to text with the ability to play the recording
4. Picture – Launches the camera app and embeds it to the note
You can mix and match the notes types as follows:
Freeform Text + Picture
Checklist + Picture
Voice Recording + Freeform Text + Picture
Picture + Freeform Text
In all types, you can put in a title. For voice recordings, Keep runs it through voice dictation and transforms what you say into text, so it ends up
being a Freeform Text type of note.
Let’s now go through each note type…
Freeform Text
The toolbar has four parts.
1. The yellow note icon brings you back to the home screen
2. The palette icon lets you change the background color of the note
3. The camera icon opens the camera app and lets you embed one or more pictures
4. The context menu opens a menu containing more items
The first line contains the Title. All note types have a title. The next line is where the note’s body begins.

Google Keep: Colored Freeform Text
To add a picture to a freeform note, click on the camera icon. The camera app will load, you take the picture, and if it’s good you click on the check
icon. The note will then load, with the picture(s) on top. You can add more pictures as needed.

Checklist
If you know how to do freeform notes, checklists are no different and operate the same way.
To create a checklist:
1. From the home screen, click on the check icon
2. Enter a title (Grocery List)
3. Enter the items on your checklist
You can add as many list items as needed.

The voice recording note is unique in that it assumes a person is dictating the note. When you’re done dictating the note, it runs through speech-
to-text conversion.

Sharing
Sharing notes in Google Keep is exactly the same as sharing other things in Android.
1. Click on the context menu on the top-right corner of the Google Keep screen
2. Click Share
3. Click on the app you want to share the note with

Accessing your Google Keep notes outside of Android
Because Google Keep integrates with Google Drive, you can access your notes from a web browser by going to this special URL:
http://drive.google.com/keep
The word special is underlined above because you cannot see it by going to the regular Google Drive URL. Google obviously doesn’t want to
expose the actual data structure by making it visible as a file. That’s fine. The special url instead displays the notes in a way that’s rendered
similarly to how it appears on the Android app.
interestingly, as long as you set Google Keep to Sync, changes made to a note from the URL results in changes being reflected on the Android app.
Sync is turned on by default. But you can control it by going to the home screen, clicking on the context menu, then click on Settings.
If you want to be amused by how quickly it syncs, mark a checklist item as checked on the web, then watch it change on the Android app.
Conclusion
The Google Accounts ecosystem is thriving across all computing platforms like Windows, Mac OS X, Android, iOS. With Google Keep, it has the
opportunity to thrive even more.
We hope they release one for iOS, Chrome OS, Windows, and Mac OS X, in that sequence.
