In a series circuit, all components are connected one after the other so that there is only one path for current to flow. In a parallel circuit, the same current from the power source splits up to travel through multiple branches with different components, then recombines to complete the circuit. Both circuits require a power source, conductors to carry current, and at least one load or device, but they differ in how those parts are arranged within the complete circuit path.
