3. Education Society Overview
The IEEE Education Society
(EdSoc) was founded in
1957 and is one of the
oldest technical societies
in the IEEE. It is a
worldwide community of
professionals dedicated to
ensuring high-quality
education in science and
engineering
Objective: The IEEE
Education Society is an
international organization
that promotes, advances,
and disseminates state-of-
the-art scientific
information and resources
related to the Society’s
field of interest and
provides professional
development
opportunities for
academic and industry
professionals
Field of Interest: The
theory and practice of
education and educational
technology involved in the
effective delivery of
domain knowledge of all
fields within the scope of
interest of IEEE
4. Purpose,
Strategy
and
Operations
An approved strategic plan has guided activity for ten years resulting
in significant changes including four new conferences, one new
journal, a new open-access section in IEEE Access, and mutually
beneficial collaborations with other organizational units.
Our membership is globally diverse, mostly academic, and
somewhat younger than it was in the past.
In our conferences we target special sessions and workshops to
women in engineering and young processionals.
We appointed for the first year women in engineering (WIE), young
professional (YP), and diversity and inclusion (D&I) representatives
to the corresponding TAB/IEEE committees

Technical Committee Description and strategic contribution
Technical Committee
on Learning Sciences
This collaborative cross-disciplinary community of experts in
Learning Sciences provides seminars, webinars, white papers,
and organizes conference paper tracks and workshops to
advance the frontiers of human and machine learning.
Learning Science seeks to understand how people learn, how
people chunked and retrieve information for usage, and how
models of education impact success at learning tasks.
Technical Committee
on Learning
Engineering
This collaborative cross-disciplinary community of experts in
Learning Engineering provides seminars, webinars, white
papers, and organizes conference paper tracks and workshops
to advance the frontiers of learning environments.
Learning Engineering is the field of instructional design and

Page-count 450 and utilisation 447 this year, page-count 500 for 2022.
Submission to publication times remain at a mean of 32 weeks
TLT
EiC renewal underway – proposal to reappoint Prof. M. Lee pending his acceptance and negotiation on editorial
support and an Associate EiC due high workloads.
Title performing reasonably well with 31 papers published in 2021, we should aim to expand the number of papers per
year.
Submission to publication times a concern at a mean of 75 weeks we need to reduce bottle-necks in editorial
processing.
IEEE Access Section
Performing well, currently 21 articles published, 6 in review in October
Access to educational content via search features on the main web site poor, access via EdSoc web site produces a
relevant list of papers.

20. Membership We grow and sustain membership through
traditional Technical Activities such as conferences,
workshops, research symposia, archival journal
publications, open-access publication options,
webinars, social media channels, and co-
sponsorship of appropriate programs with IEEE-EA
and other sister societies such as LACCEI and ASEE.
Our Society is composed primarily of mid-career
male academics. However, diversification in
engineering practice, academics, and the rise of
the engineering education degree – which has a
more balanced gender ratio –has resulted in
automatic growth in regional, racial, ethnic, and
gender diversity.
21. Education Society Membership (as of Oct. 2021)
▶ Total Number of Members: 3,339 (+156 from June 2021)
