3. Concept
First Round – May to August, 2010
Call for bands go out via email, press ads and website in April
Bands enter online via jamaicajazzandblues.com by uploading their material
Entries put up for voting by online votes and texting
Bands chosen by combination of votes received and votes by Art of Music Live!

JJ&B will partner with a bar/club in 4 main towns (Kingston, Montego Bay, Ocho
Rios, Mandeville) to host and promote live event
JJ&B will take over venue on a slow night for the location and joint promotion of the
event will be done.
There will be no cover. Expected attendance 200-500
A total of 48 bands will be selected from online entries to compete at live auditions
over the four month period.
24 bands to be chosen from the auditions to move on to Second Round Bands to be
selected by a combination of voting during live stream and text messages, along with
votes from a panel of judges

4. Second Round – September 2010
24 bands from Round 1 perform in two live auditions each week with 6 bands
performing each night in each town
Audition to last two hours (8 pm to 10pm) followed by an after party
Each band will perform for 10 mins, or 3 songs
Performance will be televised and streamed
Fans asked to vote online during stream and by text for each band to move
forward to finals
Audience reaction will account for 20% of the total votes
Online/text will account for 20% of the total votes
60% of the total votes will be accounted for by a panel of judges
12 bands (3 from each audition) selected to perform at Jamaica Jazz and Blues
2011

5. Promotional Tour
Each winning band will commit to playing for four promotional concerts
Tour will feature one leg in each of the locations used for the auditions with the goals
of:
o featuring the winning bands to create awareness for them
o encouraging fans of the bands to accompany them to the festival
There will be a small cover charge, the proceeds of which will be shared between the
bands at the end of the night.
Tour will run over two weekends in each town with 6 bands playing on each night.
Each band will play for 20 mins with 10 minute band change for a total of 3 hours
All concerts will be televised and streamed on the internet and fans will be invited to
vote by texting or online during the live stream
Three bands will be chosen from online voting and texting to perform on the main
stage at the festival. One on each night with #1 on Saturday, #2 on Friday and #3 on
Thursday. All others will perform on the talent stage

6. Marketing and Promotions
Minimum of one month promotion before each event
Media to be invited to the events
Street Promotion Team to put up posters and hand out flyers to regular patrons
during period
Develop partnership with local newspaper for promotion
Develop partnership with local radio stations
Stream the events live over the internet in order to interact with the extended fan
base
Utilize social networking websites…..Facebook. Twitter etc. to promote the events
Additional joint promotions with potential sponsors
A comprehensive grassroots media and PR strategy will also be developed
The marketing and PR programme will be designed reach to tens of thousands of
persons and to achieve the goal of increasing the number of persons attending Jamaica
Jazz and Blues 2011.

and Blues Festival.
• We will interact directly with several thousand fans.
• 12 new and upcoming bands will be offered promotion which will give them exposure
and heighten awareness for them before the Festival.

marketplaces to a captive audience.
