Result of a classroom challenge: make a state advertising campaign about some of the class’s freedom heroes. One of the aims was to bring our spirit up in a time of difficulties. As our heroes, we should never give up.
1. Mário Soares
He opposed the Salazar’s rule since student days. As a consequence of that acti-
on, he was arrested 13 times by the PIDE;
He defended, as a lawyer, several opponents of the regime;
He went into exile in Paris due to constant persecution;
He was one of the founders of the Socialist Party (1973), where he served as Se-
cretary-General;
After the revolution, Mário Soares returned to Lisbon he served as Minister of
Foreign Affairs (resulting in the independence of the Portuguese colonies);
From 1977 to 1985, has successfully negotiated the entry of Portugal into the Eu-
ropean Community.
Soares is cool !
