4. I am proud of my Jewish
heritage but not because……
• I was raised in a Jewish home – I wasn’t
• I went to Hebrew school – I didn’t
• I went to camp – I didn’t
• I have memories of our family going to
synagogue together – we didn’t
• I have been to Israel – I haven’t
5. I am passionate about being
Jewish because……
It matches up with my other passions:
• I love to learn
• I love to laugh
• I love ancient cultures and exotic places
• I have an interest in social justice
And also because of shared culture and traditions
6. I didn’t realize any of this until
I came to Jacksonville.
In NY that culture and
tradition were part of the In Jacksonville, not so
environment. much.
7. I came to the Center and the JJC
Preschool and MJGDS and discovered
that part of what I missed about NY was
being Jewish and I discovered my pride in
it.
8. I learned that if I wanted our
children to feel that way too,
• they weren’t going to get it from the local culture,
• they weren’t going to get it from our extended
family because they are not here,
• and they weren’t going to learn it from me
because I didn’t have the tools.
