4. Introduction
1. This is an example of water tube boiler and is
used in stationary and marine engine.
3. This boiler is used when pressure is above
10bar and steam generating capacity is required
higher then 7000kg/hr.
5. History
ď‚— In 1867, Providence, Rhode Island, residents Stephen
Wilcox and his partner George Herman
Babcock patented the Babcock & Wilcox Non-
Explosive Boiler, which used water filled tubes and de-
nucleate boiling to generate steam more safely than
either under-fire or fire-tube boilers.
ď‚— In 1891, Babcock & Wilcox Ltd is established as a
separate United Kingdom company, to be responsible
for all sales outside the US and Cuba.[7]
12. Advantages
The steam generation capacity of the
boiler is very high about 2000 to 40000
kg/hr.
Replacement of defective tubes is easy.
Boiler is required less space area compared
to fired tube boilers.
It is used in power station for generating
large quantity of steam.
