Year 13 design ideas
1.
2. 4-6 double pages of idea generations,
each annotated fully with media
testing for each idea. Look at
example books and folders for ideas
and inspirations. There should also
be lots of Artist links and primary
photographs on the pages
(You must use this time to
experiment with a variety of
materials. You will begin your final
outcome in January)
This must all be completed by….
3. You now need to begin to decide
what media(s) you would like to
use for your final outcome. You
should consider how you want to
present your work…
-What image(s) do you want to
use?
-Do you want to create one large
scale piece or create a series of
images?
-Do you need to buy any
materials (eg: a canvas)
4. Next … you are
going to develop
your final idea
further so you
are able to come
back in January
confident and
organised ready
to create a
successful final
outcome.
5. Your ideas can be
formatted in a variety of
ways. You may want to
create ideas straight into
your sketchbook or
create small canvases or
sculptures that you
photograph and then
write about on your
boards (loose work will
also be submitted)
I have decided to create a large scale
painting to represent my theme
‘distortion’. Here is one of the images I
am considering using for my final piece.
I have used acrylic paint and I feel this
has worked well to show different tones
as well as the distortion and the
movement in the image
Here is the second image I am considering
using for my final piece. I have again acrylic
paint tat has helped me build up the range of
colours and movement in the image. At this
stage I feel Idea one is a more striking image
for a final outcome.

annotated
explaining how
they link to your
theme, what
media you have
used, your
opinions etc

Your design ideas may show a range of different images you are thinking of using for
one final outcome as shown in the two examples below.
7. You may have already chosen the image you want to use so your
final designs might simple be trying out different colour schemes
or styles/techniques that you could use.
Idea one Idea two Idea three
8. Your designs might be if
you want your final
piece to be one large
image or a series of
images.
9. If you have
decided to
create a
mixed media
piece. Your
design ideas
maybe trying
out different
combinations
of materials
for your final
piece
10. If you want to create 3D work make sure you experiment with your chosen material.
This will probably mean creating a small model and maybe trying some sections to a
larger scale
11. - What is my idea?
- How does it link to my theme?
- What primary imagery am I using?
- What Artists link to this idea?
- What will I need to consider if I
create this as my final outcome?
- What has worked well?
- Is there anything I would
change/adapt?
