real quandary. OER
materials can help!

OER materials before
taking a class in order to
‘bone up’ on materials
they may have
forgotten (over break…)
• Students can access
OER materials after
class is over in order to
remember material
(and maybe prepare for
the next level over
break…)

• Purdue is a ‘household name’ among many
English teachers for its amazing website.
Faculty, colleges, and universities that submit
exceptional OER materials can also add to
their fame and prestige.

6. Unlimited Resources in a Variety of
Mediums
 Need images?
 Need texts, both short, long, and in-between?
 Need audio and music?
 Need activities?
 Need videos?
• OER has them all, and you can often find them to fit your
outcomes exactly or modify them a bit!

1. …slug through the sheer amount of possibilities looking for the things
that ‘fit’ the outcomes of the class.
2. …follow your own personal ‘bunny trails’ when you continue to find
interesting things to read and study when you are supposed to be
looking for things that fit your outcomes.
3. …correctly credit the sources of each image, activity, video, and text,
particularly when each image contains three separate hyperlinks.
4. …modify a work (when acceptable) that needs to be adapted (as
sometimes you realize that it might have been faster to just create it
yourself)
5. …go back into http://www.openwa.org on a regular basis to keep
curriculum relevant and updated.
