This document outlines a collaboration to design sneakers that tell stories about the future of learning. It will involve 4 virtual workshops covering design aspects and connecting with audiences. Participants will design a custom sneaker using the Ninety Nine Products signature Point Sneaker as a template. Judges will evaluate designs based on how strongly they connect to the future of learning and how compelling the pitch is. The top 4 designs will present their sneakers and stories to judges for a chance to have 1200 pairs produced.
2. The purpose of this collaboration is to amplify ideas about
how learning can happen that are radically different from
how we currently think about school. In other words the
goal is to design a sneaker that tells the story about the
FUTURE OF LEARNING.
Running Towards
the Future of
Learning
3. Here is what “this” is...
4 virtual workshops hosted by the Ninety Nine Products team
Workshops cover: Origin story/Mission, Composition and Design, Color design, Connecting with an audience,
Creating marketing materials, Promoting a message
Homework: After each session there will be homework assigned that will help you complete the design of your
sneaker and a compelling story to go with it. Homework will be due each Wednesday at 3:00pm CST.
Competition
Point System: A point system will be used to identify the top 4 designs out of the total field. Teams can earn
points by attending design sessions, completing homework, creativity, aesthetically pleasing design and strength
of the connection to the future of learning.
How do you win? Once the top 4 has been selected, each team will have a chance to pitch and will have designs
+ pitches evaluated by a judging panel that includes celebrities, educators, and young people.
4. Judging
Judges will be celebrities, educators and young people. They will be evaluating designs looking for two major
criteria:
The Story of the
future of learning
02
● How strong is the connection to the future of
learning?
● Was the pitch for the sneaker compelling?
● Does the team’s communication match with
the intended design elements?
The design of the
sneaker
01
● Would the judge want to wear this
sneaker?
● Does it look aesthetically pleasing?
● Does it tell a story?
5. The Sneaker Itself
You will be creating a customization of the the signature Point Sneaker from Ninety Nine Products. Here is
what you need to know about your design:
● The story of the future of learning- As tempting as it might be to create a design that uses your
brand colors and mission, fight that temptation to tell the larger story of the future of learning. Of
course do that through the work and expertise you have but we want these to tell the story of the
future of learning and not a single organization because we believe that there isn’t one single solution
to education’s problems.
● Use a many colors as you would like - Ninety Nine Products has the capability to use most colors
you can think out. You will choose colors by using illustrator, paint or printing out this template. You
are not choosing fabrics or materials or making changes to the shape/silhouette of the sneaker.
● Creating an image- Each design team will also have the option to create an image that is not the
orgs logo to be screened on the upper of the sneaker. The image should be something that, like the
sneaker tells the story of the future of learning.
*The winning sneaker will have 1200 pairs produced and will drop on August 9th 2021
