INTRODUCTION TO TIME
MANAGEMENT
• A time management report and analysis based on a two day period of
events:
• Each event was separated into four quadrants:
Q1 Important, urgent.
Q2 important, not urgent
Q3 not important, urgent
Q4 not important, not urgent
DAY ONE: OCTOBER 15TH, 2013

Q1: Important/ Urgent
Q2: Important/ Not
Urgent

Q3: Not Important/
Urgent
Q4: Not Important/ Not
Urgent
DAY ONE REPORT
• Quadrant One: Mid term crisis. (2 hours)
• I waited until the night before an exam to prepare myself for it.
• Quadrant Two: Consisted more than half of my day (9.5 hours.)
• Important activities such as; Class, eating (lunch, dinner), visiting the
tutoring center, homework and studying, as well as personal aspects
(shower, getting ready etc.)
• Quadrant Three: (1.5 hours)
• I was pressured into visiting my friend at work as he wanted to introduce
me to his co-workers during my scheduled time for homework.

• Quadrant Four: (2 hours)
• Avoiding preparation for the mid term that was scheduled the following
day by fooling around with friends in the dorms; watching
movies, texting, social media etc., were all excuses to escape
responsibility.
DAY ONE ANALYSIS
• ** Although some procrastination occurred, time was spent efficiently as I
managed to get everything important done.
• How to prevent Day One Q1 Crisis situations:
• I could have made preparing for the mid term a Q2 activity by planning
little by little several days in advance.
• How to prevent Day One Q3 Not Important/ Urgent situations:
• I could have done my Homework at the time scheduled and visited my
friend at work afterwards making it a relationship building activity (Q2).
• How to prevent Day One Q4 Not Important/ Not Urgent situations:
• Instead of fooling around with friends I should have gotten my urgent
work done (Preparation for mid-term).
DAY TWO: OCTOBER 16TH, 2013

Q1: Important/ Urgent
Q2: Important/ Not
Urgent
Q3: Not Important/
Urgent
Q4: Not Important/ Not
Urgent
DAY TWO REPORT
• Quadrant One: (2 hours spent before class)
• Urgent situation: Completing homework due for the next class scheduled.
• Quadrant Two: Most time spent again (9 hours)
• Same activities as Day one: Class, eating, visiting the tutoring
center, homework and studying, as well as personal aspects**Plus having
a formal dinner with friends.
• Quadrant Three: 5 hours (time tripled from Day 1)
• I was pressured by friends to go out from 11:00 pm to 3:00 am instead of
sleeping for class the next morning.
• Quadrant Four: No time spent.
DAY TWO ANALYSIS
• ** Time was spent efficiently as I got everything important done. Results
were better than Day One as I spent no time in Q4 avoiding
responsibilities.
• How to prevent Day Two Q1 Crisis situations:
• Not doing homework last minute, preparing for class the previous day.

• How to prevent Day Three Q3 Not Important/ Urgent situations:
• Preparing yourself for class in the morning by getting rest, rather than
going out with friends:
• Don’t go with the flow, be your own motivation.
STRENGTHS VS. WEAKNESSES
• Strengths:

• Weaknesses:

• To-do lists
• Organized
• Concentrate at one task at a
time
• Deadlines are always set
• Finish at least one task a day
• Schedule personal time alone
• Not always worried
• Defined long term objectives
• Looking for ways to spend time
more efficiently

• Prioritizing tasks
• Diving large projects into smaller
stages
• Doing important tasks at my
“best time”
• Procrastination
• Lose track of time
CONCLUSION TO SELF-MANAGEMENT
• Overall my time was spent effectively as I produced a wanted result by
getting my important, due tasks done.
• However, procrastination and leaving important work for last minute led
to lack of efficiency.

• Planning to do important work at a better time of day several days in
advance would have made it efficient.
