Alongside his work in consumer marketing, Michael

Sparta home.
In early 2016, famed watchmaker Richard Mille
introduced a groundbreaking mechanical fountain
pen. Like many of his watches, the beautiful pen
carries a price tag of well over $100,000.
The pen's mechanical system works like that of a
watch, using a minute repeater to slowly and
consistently transfer energy.

When a button is pressed, the pen slides the nib
out of the barrel. Replacing the cap slides the
nib back in and generates the energy needed
for the next nib deployment. This system acts
similarly to a winding mechanism, removing the
need to manually wind the device.
The pen itself is made of NTPT carbon that is
stylized to look like Damascus steel. Rhodium-
plated titanium gears are visible through a
window on the pen's barrel that provides a view
of the intricate inner workings.
