Leading Edge Tourism
     Innovation
 Setting the trend for others to follow.
 Who are the trail-blazers and pioneers?
 Leaders at the fore-front of a particular
    movement.
 A target always moving forward.
 The fight against obsolesence.
 The most advanced or innovative aspect
    of a field.
Awe Inspiring Technology
that takes us into the future
?
 Shifts in power.
 Emerging States China, India, Brazil and
    Russia.
 Climate Change.
 A growing aging population.
Who or what
 Is at the fore-
 front of trends
 in the
 developing
 Countries ?
Who or what Is at the
fore-front of trends in
developing countries ?
 Populations are growing.
 We can’t ignore environmental impacts.
 Water scarcity
 Shifting geo-political context
 Transnational corporations in poorer
    countries.
 Widening financial inequality.
 Growing opression in certain countries.
In a world where the next big thing of
tomorrow becomes the normal thing of
today, inventors and manufacturers compete
to maintain the leading edge in their field.
How is the tourism Industry taking
us into the future ?
Where is tourism’s Edge ?
Transparent Fuselage, Biometric
Boarding passes and on-board
holograms.

Sounds futuristic ?

According to the designers of the Airbus 2050, it’s
not that far into the future……….
Seats which change
shape to fit body type
and use body heat
 to power the use of
holographic pods.
The bionic structure which is lighter weight,
mimics bird bones and allows for panoramic
views while the transparent fuselage adjusts
to opaque to let in or keep out light.
Economy, business and first
class…….and think Vitalizing Zone; with
seats that can massage you, Interaction
zone; with pop-up pods for private
dinners and holographic gaming, and
Smart Tech Zone, where seats adjust to
your individual size and shape.

                         The planes of tomorrow
                            The planes of
                            tomorrow
Longer and
slimmer wings,
 inspired by
biomimicry,
reduce drag
and improve fuel
efficiency.
 New
manufacturing
methods reduce
costs and
environmental
impact.
 Double
doors for faster
easier boarding
Aircraft launched
through assisted
takeoffs using
renewably
powered,
propelled
acceleration.
Airbus designers envisage future, highly
intelligent aircraft which can “self-
organise” and select the most efficient and
friendly routes.
Free glide approaches into airports could
lower emissions during the overall decent,
reducing noise and landing speed.
Airbus designs aim for aircraft engines to be
switched off sooner, runways cleared faster,
and ground handling emissions cut.
Aviation is currently responsible for 2
per cent of total over-all manmade CO2
emissions.
Airbus is currently researching and exploring
alternative energy sources such as
sustainable bio-fuels, electricity, hydrogen
and solar, to power their planes in the future
The aim is to find renewable resources which
emit less CO2.
 The Airbus 2050 design is guided by a
vision of sustainable aviation in 2050…
 ……inspired to move beyond the usual
    boundaries.
 Challenging the status quo and…..
 ……seeking disruptive ideas.
 To meet challenging targets to cut CO2
    emissions by 2050
This product is leading edge because
the Airbus 2050 vision reaches into the
future, combining existing technology
and talent together with the unified
contributions of all actors within the
industry, and the belief that ground
breaking change is imminent within
aviation.
Airbus 2050 Smarter Skies vision plans
to meet the expected growth in the
travel industry in a sustainable way,
addressing the fore-most needs of the
aviation industry in our changing world.
 …realize the importance and
    longevity of the travel industry.

 Envision the future and imagine and
connect with customers within it ,
    and…….
….emphasize the value of emotion as a
driving force when connected to new
innovation and technology, a tactic used
by Airbus in their “The Future by Airbus”
presentation, a light show in Berlin , (link
on final slide)
….Realize travellers want efficiency and that their
needs are significant.
 …..Value connecting with peoples passions and
  considering and anticipating passengers unique
  needs.
 ….see sustainability as a prominent issue which
will shape and transform the tourism industry.
……are linked through their acknowledgement
of;
 the growing environmental conciousness of our
    world.
 environmental consequences becoming
    increasingly apparent.
 transportation technology advances changing
    the way we live.
 the importance of responding to travellers’ needs
in terms of health, quality of experience and
    convenience………and……

events.
Airbus designers are not holding back
with their visions for the future. Time
will tell whether the challenge of
creating sustainable, quality and
covenient air travel which meets our
global needs will become a reality of
our time.
