  1. Introductions: Matt hew Harp, Digital Library Production Manager (Producer and Director with the ASU library channel) Anali Perry , Collections & Scholarly Communications Librarian. (T alent (host), helps to generate topics ) Mimmo Bonanni, Digital Projects Librarian (Production Assitant) Breakout sessions will be timed We'll also have a ten minute halfway through the program. Introduce, Check progress, and wrap up exercises *
  2. Provide overview of process and elements promoting the library through video series. Break up into two groups (Chair has a color determining group) It is a 4 step process you follow with every production ideas (pick a topic, sub points - outline/prepare) record (Shoot and Import) edit (process and export) distribute (load to host and promote) The workshop is about the process versus actual content . Create a BASIC / conceptual program. We are not making perfect videos Questions and Answers during breakouts and at end time permitting *
  3. So what is the library minute? Not Tutorials but classroom i ce b reakers. Informative vs. Instructional Accessible globally through desktops and mobile devices Fun, informative and most importantly... short
  4. And if you haven't seen one before, here is our 33rd minute promoting library exhibits. *
  5. But we are not the only ones doing this. Others libraries have followed our example. Each illustrate a unique style and message Some have even contacted us before creating their own versions. Notice the difference in style, information, and pacing With each think about: Who is their audience ? What is the message? Are they successful? Keep this in mind as we come up with ideas. *
  6. How do we get our ideas? Anali and Jennie Duvernay (Marketing & Outreach Officer) collaborate and brainstorm topics Ideas come from Library staff and also from commonly asked Ask a Librarian questions (Faculty and student) Staff – (example: printing and security; Library OneSearch) External - (Top 5 Online Resources; securing laptops) Content and deadlines will dictate method Coordinate release EFFECTIVELY with event/exhibit – GIVE ROOM FOR PUBLIC RESPONSE AND PARTICIPATION
  7. * We are targeting STUDENTS Get to the point, keep their attention Millennial behavior - a udio v isual adaptations = becoming more important Long form video not the best answer… so we came up with the Library Minute
  8. Give them 20 minutes to choose and come up with sub components.
  9. Gathering your material Recording within our cube farm Have to work within the environment we are given Noise issues always a problem…lighting not optimal Things to consider: Lighting Audio Equipment Talent energy and focus *
  10. Keep it simple Direct to more info instead of explaining everything (some elements can be text or graphics) Not everything has to be vocalized Think of this material as an ice breaker or introduction
  11. Most cyclic of process Assemble Refine Reorganize Add graphics and text Real World: Re-shoot or record additional audio if necessary This can take a few days depending on content and style
  12. Introduce Editing. A dvantages and disadvantages to Green Screen Use. Using the time line organizing your footage. *
  13. Use timer and have participants edit their new footage Presenters float around and supervise
  14. W hat are you going to do to get your video “out there” We’ll explain CC and show options but this will not be covered. Accessibility (Transcripts) Necessary for hearing impaired Side benefit: YouTube Auto Translation *
  15. Use simplified export process... demo if time is short
  16. Plan compression Think about accessibility Closed or Open captions necessary for hearing impaired Side benefit is YouTube Auto Translation (such as fans in Netherlands)
  17. You have limitless options… many are FREE. External Hosting: Internet Archive (Hosting for download... transcodes too) YouTube (Viral potential) Vimeo (With paid option) Local University Broacast (ASUtv) ITunes U Both streaming and downloadable check your organization policies on using external hosting Syndication and Social Network: Twitter Facebook Blogger Google Plus... and more Internal Distribution networks , digital signage, web brochures, computer workstations.. reference desk and classroom! Get content OUT to users do not rely on just your website *
  18. Load content to web if time permits
  19. * Goal: Reduce barriers Manifested by: not making users have to look for us Place content where are students do their work and Socialize
  20. * Leverage Technology have a great description its your metadata. include topics, talent, titles, links Tags add to navigation and discoverability – categories by location and program Link to Resources within “show notes” external, catalog, pages, databases, repositories etc We’ve included a twitter feed as well. – Twitter is quickly become a larger presence in our interaction with students and the community
  21. * Budget we have a general marketing budget but not a line item for production. This could be helpful NO SCRIPT 90% of our material is ad lib with talking points or bullets. Scripts sound stilted. We don’t have professional voice talent. N aili down ideas to snippets (not brochure length dialogue) forming a brief narrative (talking points) hardest part in planning Tie into overall marketing plan Make sure content is discoverable.. are you connecting? Be Creative, take chances. ( A supportive administration very important! ) Network! Leverage your content associated with institution!
  22. Wrap up and last minute Q&A *
