We are working on a project called "Universal Household Dashboard" - an online service where all your utility bills, your kids' school performance and various other useful bits of your household are collected, aggregated, pivot-tabled and presented to you in a friendly format, allowing you to see correlations and make smart decisions.
2. What’s this all about?
We are working on a project called "Universal
Household Dashboard" - an online service where all
your utility bills, your kids' school performance and
various other useful bits of your household are
collected, aggregated, pivot-tabled and presented to
you in a friendly format, allowing you to see
correlations and make smart decisions.
3. What’s this all about?
If we manage to launch this project, then general public
will be able to receive a service which allows them to
take a fully visual and easy control on their household
expenses in one place, while making smart decisions
and save money.
On the other side, it would allow utility companies to
get an access to users and interact with them at the
never expected before rate, while receiving payments at
the faster rate.
4. What we di?
To get some info for the research, we have conducted
an online survey and various face-to-face interviews
and asked people to:
“Imagine if this service was fully operational and
allowed you to monitor all your household expenses,
make smart decisions and save money...”
We gave them 10 questions to answer and this is what
we got back
6. Insights - Interests
Vast majority of people is interested in our project
(76%)
Finds it moderately or very useful, and would
recommend to their friends (93%)
Big proportion is keen to know more about the
project (76%)
Some people consider this idea only slightly useful
or not useful at all (14%).
7. Insights - Financials

subscription charge for this service, but only if price
does not exceed 10 USD per a month
16% of respondents is ready to pay a charge of over
20$ per month, at high levels of the service quality
Service cost is a serious issue.

Satisfaction with services available from the
competitors (21%)
No need in such service (14%)
Careful pricing and product differentiation
models in the product marketing are needed.
9. Insights - Issues
A big amount of respondents who liked the idea,
was still not fully clear about the concept and needed
more info on the product (78%)
Product promotion across the general public
is needed, especially which is not tech savvy.
10. Insights - Issues
Some respondents raised a concern about their
private information to be stored in one database, and
potentially being under threat of a security breach
Full importance of storage and protection of
the technical data (feeds) and personal data
(logins) has to be taken on board.
11. Insights - Billing
wire transfer or a bank
Billing process issue, as a bank
branch is mostly used to pay utility bills
Financial information storage in our system
These weaknesses could be used as
opportunities, since bills are paid easier in one
go, and also all historical data is stored in one
system.
More convenient option for general public to
use, and monetization with % of commission
and in return offering targeted deals and
discounts after each prompt-payment.
12. Features mostly expected
Friendly and comfortable GUI (graphical user
interface)
Secure and reliable payment system
Strong privacy features
Stable service and support
13. Result
These surveys, questionaries’ and face to face
interviews definitely made us to rethink some aspects
of our product, as well as making some changes and
improvements; however we also good a proof of that
this system is definitely interesting and majority of
people would like to try that, even if this service will be
sold on a paid subscription basis.
