Speaking skill
 Speaking is the productive skill in the oral
mode. It, like the other skills, is more
complicated than it seems at first and
involves more than just pronouncing words.
Speaking Situations
 There are three kinds of speaking situations in which
we find ourselves:
* interactive,
* partially interactive, and
* non-interactive.
 Interactive speaking situations include face-to-face
conversations and telephone calls, in which we are
alternately listening and speaking, and in which we have
a chance to ask for clarification, repetition, or slower
speech from our conversation partner.
 Some speaking situations are partially interactive,
such as when giving a speech to a live audience, where
the convention is that the audience does not interrupt the
speech. The speaker nevertheless can see the audience
and judge from the expressions on their faces and body
language whether or not he or she is being understood.
 Some few speaking situations may be totally non-
interactive, such as when recording a speech for a radio
broadcast .

How to Improve English Communication
or Speaking Skills
 The ability to communicate effectively is important
in relationships , education and work . Here are
some steps and tips to help you develop good
communication skills .
1 - Find native English speakers
In certain areas it's
the hardest thing to
do, but it's the best
use of your time.
Talking to actual
native speakers is
the most
effective way to
improve your
English skills,
speaking or
otherwise. So
whether you have to
Skype them, call
them, or beg them to
speak to you, do so.
Your progress will be
faster this way than
any other.
2 - Learn To Listen
When speaking in a
foreign language, you
might be so focused
on what you are
saying and whether
it’s correct or not,
that you forget
to listen to what
others are saying.
This is a big mistake
as they might be
using the exact
words or grammar
you’ll be needing
later on. So pay
attention to what’s
being said around
you, it’s your most
important resource
at the time of
speaking to someone.
1. Slow Down Your Speaking Speed
Nobody will hold it
against you if
you speak more
slowly and clearly.
Great speakers do
the same to get
their message
across. Selecting
your words
carefully may also
be seen as a sign of
respect towards
your audience. It
shows that you
want to give them
the best possible
answer.
4 – Record yourself.
Though we hear
ourselves all the
time, we really
don't know quite
what we sound
like. So record
yourself! What are
the weak and
strong points you
hear in your
speech? And then
you can
concentrate on
what you need to
work on.
5 - Give Yourself Time To Think
You may be
worried that the
people you’re
talking to are
impatient and
would like you to
say what you want
as quickly as
possible.
First of all, it may
not be true –
people often
prefer a well-
thought-out
answer to a rushed
one. So just relax
6 - Speak English at home.
This is the biggest,
easiest mistake to
make. You go about
your day, you're on
the job working
partly in English, you
go to your English
class, and then you
go home and revert
back to your native
tongue.
Make a point to
speak it at home, too.
Have only English at
the dinner table.
Stick to English TV at
home. Make it as
24/7 as possible.
7 - Create opportunities
It's easy to look at
your situation and
think that you'll
never be exposed to
English naturally as
much as you would
like. Going abroad is
expensive, you don't
know any foreigners,
etc. That's the lazy
way of looking at it!
English speakers are
everywhere;
sometimes they just
have to be found and
coaxed out of
hiding. You have to
come to them.
8 - Don't be afraid to make
mistakes.
If you haven't had
half a dozen
teachers that have
told you this, you
were probably
taught by robots.
Making mistakes is
crucial. If you
don't, you won't
learn what's right
and wrong, you
won't take risks,
and you won't
truly grasp the
concepts you're
learning. It's
sucky, it is, but it's
necessary.
9 - Listen to English Speaking
Shows
Find an interesting TV
show, radio show, or
even podcast that you
can listen to both at
home and on the go.
Spend as much of your
downtime as possible
listening to spoken
English. ITunes offers a
great variety of hour
long podcasts that you
can directly download to
your mp3 player.
Listening to spoken
English will help you
improve your improve
your vocabulary, learn
better sentence structure
and make learning the
correct pronunciation of
difficult words even
easier.
