Retelling of the fairy tale of
Rumpelstiltskin, compiled by Grimm
brothers:
Here I present a retelling of the
classic Grimmâs fairy tale.
This wonder tale recounts the story
of the beautiful daughter of a poor
miller.
O
nce upon a time, there was a Miller
who was very proud of her beautiful
daughter.
The miller, in order to make
himself appear important in front of the king, in an act
of weakness, boasts that his daughter could spin
straw into gold. The kings required the miller to give
him his beautiful daughter.

Inside the tower there was also a wheel, and the
young girl was threatened with death if she hadnât
completely the difficult task the next morning.
Lonely and helpless, the girl feels
miserable and cries, until, suddenly, a magic
dwarfish man comes to help the girl. They make an
agreement: She should give him a precious gift in
exchange.
ïŒ First day: She gives him a necklace in
exchange. So the strange man started whirr,

room full of straw and threatened
unfortunate girl again. Powerless, and feeling
incapable for accomplishing kingâs
commands, the girl cries until

the dwarf magically offers her a new deal;
she would give him a ring in exchange for
spinning the straw into glittering gold.

When she guessed the right name, the anger dwarf
plunged his right foot deep into the earth. Then his
whole leg went in deep inside, and when in range, he tried
to pull at his left so hard with both hands that he tore
himself in two parts. And she lived happily ever after.

Those are some suggestions on how we could lead the communicative interaction in class. Main goal is
to make the tale meaningful for children. They will listen and read the story. And then they will be asked about
it, and we all will try to understand the meaning by talking about it:
Number three structures the whole story; it could be understood as a symbol of children struggle to
overcame difficulties. Number tree would help us organize the retelling, and would help children understand.
The Miller might symbolize certain cynicism children do appreciate in adultâs behavior; he says his
daughter is able to do difficult things for a girl. The miller is a good although weak father, who recklessly
exposes her daughter to enormous dangers, without doing anything, and therefore the girl feels miserable.
The king might represent the feeling of frustration because adults donât fulfill their promises some
