การแยกอลูมเนียมจากสนแร่
ิ
The aluminum is produced
extracting it from the aluminum
oxide (Al2O3), called also alumina
through an electrolysis process
driven by electrical current. The
process uses as electrolyte a
molten salts called Cryolite
(Na3AlF6) capable of dissolve the
alumina
Carbon anodes are immersed into the electrolyte (usually referred as
the “bath”) carrying electrical current which then flows into the molten
cryolite containing dissolved alumina

36. Basic Oxygen Steelmaking
Hot metal is liquid iron from
the blast furnace saturated
with up to 4.3% carbon and
containing 1% or less silicon
The most common
desulfurizing reagents, lime,
calcium carbide and
magnesium - used alone or in
combination
are injected into the hot metal
through a lance
crap is by far the largest heat
sink. At 20 - 25% of the charge
• This is typically 15 to 20 minutes
• Carbon below 0.2% C
38. Basic Oxygen Steelmaking
Refining Reactions Oxygen
The oxygen required for the refining reactions is supplied as
a gas and both metal and slag are initially oxidized :
½O2(g) ↔ [O] .....(1)
Fe + [O] ↔ (FeO) .....(2)
2(FeO) + ½O2(g) ↔ (Fe2O3)…..(3)
Carbon
The principal refining reactions is of course the removal of
carbon:
[C] + [O] ↔ CO2 .....(4)
[C] + (FeO) ↔ CO2 + Fe .....(5)
Silicon
In accordance with thermodynamic predictions, the removal
silicon is usually completed relatively early in the blow. The
reaction may be represented by equations (6) and (7).
[Si] + 2[O] ↔ (SiO2) .....(6)
[Si] + 2(FeO) ↔ (SiO2) + 2Fe .....(7)
39. Basic Oxygen Steelmaking
Refining Reactions
Manganese
Sulfur removal Similar equations can be applied to manganese
Sulfur transfer takes place through the removal
following reactions: [Mn] + [O] ↔ (MnO) .....(8)
[S] + (O2)g = (SO2)g .....(14) [Mn] + (FeO) ↔ (MnO) + Fe .....(9)
[Mn] + [S] = (MnS) .....(15) ทาให ้อุณหภูมในเตาสูงขึน, และเปลียนแปลง

44. Electric Arc Furnace: EAF
Furnace capacity 50 - 400 ton smelting
and below
The main advantage of the Electric Arc
Furnaces over the Basic Oxygen Furnaces
(BOF) is their capability to treat charges
containing up to 100% of scrap
About 33% of the crude steel in the world
is made in the Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF)
At this stage excessive carbon,
phosphorous, silicon and manganese
oxidize. The process is similar to that
in Basic Oxygen Furnace
Temperature of the arc reaches 6300ºF
(3500ºC)
45. Electric Arc Furnace: EAF
(FeO) = [Fe] + [O] Oxygen dissolved in the melt oxidizes
carbon, phosphorous, silicon and
manganese:
[C] + [O] = {CO} ตะกร ัน
(slag)
[Si] + {O2} = (SiO2)
[Mn] + 1/2{O2} = (MnO)
2[P] + 5/2{O2} = (P2O5)
Carbon monoxide partially burns in the
atmosphere:
{CO} + {O2} = {CO2}
CO bubbles floating up through the melt
result in refining of the steel

49. Atomization
Atomization is one of the most effective
industrial powder preparation methods
This method involves desintagration
(atomizing) of liquid metal by means of
high speed medium (air, inert gas,
water) striking the melt streaming
through a nozzle.
50. Atomization
P/M process have uniform
properties in all directions,
properties include:
1. High levels of wear resistance.
2. Resistance to chipping and cracking.
3. High compressive strength.
4. Predictable and repeatable dimensional
changes during heat treatment.
5. Excellent grindability.
