1. What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
2. Filming equipment
We used a Canon DSLR 650D camera to film our Thriller, at first I found it hard to
use as it had many features that could be used but after practice and having time
to play around with the features to see what they do I got used to using it fairly
quickly. The quality of the footage we had from using this camera was very clear
overall but as the camera is very sensitive any move of the lens could cause the
footage to become blurry so we had to be careful about making sure we didn’t
move the lens when we were filming dramatically. We used several camera lenses
when filming out thriller and this was because some lenses focused better on
certain objects like the footage of plates in the thriller but also to focus footage
from further away. We used a tripod to film a lot of our footage because firstly it
was very useful and easy to control (moving it around) but also that it helped to
avoid any shakiness on the footage.
3. Advantages Disadvantages
- The Canon DSLR 650D camera films
good, professional quality footage.
- The battery of the Canon DSLR 650D
lasted a long time which enabled us to
film without rushing.
- We used a tripod to hold the Canon
DSLR 650D so we could avoid any shaky
footage up to an extent (look
disadvantage) but overall the tripod was
very useful as we used it for many types
of shots, for example taking a pan of the
kitchen and cropping shots (look at next
slide).
- As there are many features to the Canon
DSLR 650D it takes a lot of time to get
used to the camera which took up a lot
of time.
- The Canon DSLR 650D is quite heavy so
when some shots were being taken at a
high angle, for example Aleksandra had
to sit on the worktop to film the footage
of the girl (myself) taking dishes out the
dishwasher so it was hard to not have
any shaken footage.

4. Editing equipment
During the process of editing our footage to create a thriller I used an Apple Mac
computer. On this computer it a software app called ‘Final Cut Pro X’ which we
used to edit our thriller. At first, using the app was very hard but if I got stuck I just
went onto YouTube and watched tutorial videos. By using this software my skills in
editing developed and I learnt the basic structure on how to edit footage which
may be helpful in later opportunities, for example being able to now trip footage
and move It around. I also learnt how to import music and add it in our thriller
footage on ‘Final Cut Pro X’. Once we finished editing the Thriller we imported it to
YouTube and uploaded it through here to our blogs on Blogger.
5. Editing equipment
Advantages Disadvantages
- ‘Final Cut Pro x’ had many settings and
features which we explored.
- We were able to edit our thriller on this
software easily and gave us many
options in which we could make our
thriller the best it could be.
- The Mac had a built in microphone and
camera so we were able to record
podcasts for example.
- ‘Final Cut Pro x’ was slow at times.
- The software is quite expensive so we
were only able to edit during school
times.
- The Mac itself at times was quite slow
of froze.
- Some of our import footage did not
import properly so we had to spend a
lot of time re importing the files to
make sure we could upload our thriller
in time for the deadline.
