At the end of this class the students will be
able to :
1- Recognize the use of preposition of place
2- To understand the meaning of each
preposition, linking it to nouns,
pronouns, and phrases to other words
3- To use prepositions of place correctly
in writing and speaking
4. Preposition
-A preposition is a word which shows the relationship
between one thing and another.
-It links nouns, pronouns and phrases to other words
in the sentence.
-The word or phrase that the preposition introduces is
called the object of the sentence.
Exp: The cat is under the table
Prepositions of place, are prepositions that are used to
describe the place or position of all types of nouns.
5. Use “in” when:
We use in to show that something is
enclosed or surrounded.
The sheep are
grazing in the
pasture.
The ball is in the box.
6. We also use into show
towns, states, countries, and continents).
I live in Paris.

7. Use “on” when:
We use on to show position on a
horizontal/vertical surface.
They are playing on
the yard.
The dog is on
the table
8. We also use on to show position on
streets, roads, etc.
My house is on Sudirman Street.
9. Under
The boy is under the table.
It means at a lower level. (Something is
above it).
10. (Noun 1) +to be+ In front of (noun 2)
In front of
The girl is in front of the boy.
11. Behind
The boy is behind the girl.
It means at the back (part) of something
12. Between
The girl is between a big tree and a small
tree. Or
The girl is between two trees.
Refers to something in the middle of two
objects or things (or places).
13. next to
It usually refers to a thing (or person) that
is at the side of another thing.
