1. Analysis of another student’s
blog- Fearghal McGlinchey

2. I have chosen to analyse Fearghal McGlinchey’s A2 Media
coursework blog. The reason I have chosen to analyse
McGlinchey’s is because his music video is very similar to the
kind of music video I want to make with the use of narrative
plot combined with actual performing, as well as the similarity
in genre. I also think his digipak and advertisement are very
effective. I will be going through his blog and looking at the
different aspects of it, as well as how it contributed to his final
product.

3. McGlinchey did a lot of research before creating his final product and
separated his research into similar products, genre and institution.
In regards to institution he researched a variety including directors,
publishing platforms and music labels. In regards to genre he looked at the
conventions and history of music video’s as well as things like iconography
and cultural influence of specific genres. In regards to similar products he
researched both previous student’s work and industry created products,
giving him a well rounded understanding of similar products to the one he
was making.
All of this research enabled McGlinchey to have a good understanding of
what he wanted to do with his own music video and reflected through his
blog. The large amount of research showed throughout.
In regards to my own research, I will conduct similar tasks so that I too can
give myself a well rounded knowledge of music video history and increase
my ideas.

5. Once again McGlinchey split his
planning into 3 different sections- ideas
generation, pre-production and
logistics.
McGlinchey used a variety of media
types to present his planning ideas and
was able to demonstrate the
development of his ideas clearly. The
tasks he completed demonstrated his
final decision very well. It makes his
blog very interesting to look at.
I am planning to do very similar tasks in
preparation of my own music video as I
think it will allow me to fully develop
my ideas.

6. McGlinchey’s music video was very
interesting and professional looking.
The combination of narrative plot and
performance made it very interesting
to watch and allowed a lot of
interpretation from the audience as
well as his meaning to come across. He
obviously thought a lot about what he
was doing and it really showed. The
work he did really linked together with
what he produced.
His final products all link together very
well with a very consistent aesthetic
across his products, with his digipak
and magazine advertisement looking
like they part of the same thing.

7. Fearghal McGlinchey’s work is very high quality and is
definitely a good blog and piece of work to take inspiration
from. He worked very hard and did a lot of work and
research to make his product a very high quality piece. I
will definitely be trying to work as hard as him and be able
to produce as professional looking work as him.
