4. How do they benefit the Artist?
• A Digipak can show what the artist represents and an insight into their dominant genre.
They are used to increase the popularity of the artist by embodying a message whilst
providing a brand image. For example EVOL by Future uses a dark decaying flower.
• They are a promotional tool targeted towards Superfans who want to prove their supposed
‘loyalty’ to an Artist. They encourage the audience to purchase and consume their media.
• They can represent a creative side to the artist through the use of obscure and abstract
images with bright colours.
5. Are they on the Decline?
• Yes, simply because music is now consumed in a different format to how it used to
be (CD players.) There has been a shift from physical products (CD’s) to digital
products. This is through the commercialisation and affordability of gadgets such as
iPhones which users can download music onto and listen to on the go.
• The reason for the change started with Napster in 1999 which was the first file to
file sharing website which allowed users to share music with each other. Obviously it
broke copyright laws and is now known as Piracy, however it was the catalyst for the
drastic change in the music industry and the decline of the music video.
