What is Power Factor?
• Power Factor is the measure of how effectively electrical power is being used
• Power Factor involves the relationship between two types of power:
      Working Power and Reactive Power

       – Working Power–performs actual work of creating heat, light, motion, etc.

       – Reactive Power–sustains the electromagnetic field that is needed to run a motor (this is power that is
essentially wasted energy, which is released as heat, and will degrade motor performance

The Problem:
• Up to 25% or more of billed electricity in a manufacturing facility is unusable and essentially wasted, in large part
due to inefficient process motors. Most AC induction motors in facilities over 10 years old only operate at 80%
efficiency, or less under a full load.

• This type of waste can comprise 5% to 25% of total electricity demand, particularly in older or extremely complex
electrical systems that have evolved over time, which equates to waste and higher electricity bills.

• Low Power factor at critical process related motors, and for entire facilities is a costly, and often hidden problem,
which results in reduced plant performance, line slow downs, over heating of equipment, increased maintenance
     costs, and utility company penalties

The Solution:

• INBALANCE introduces specifically designed and engineered power quality solutions which reduce the amount of
non-productive current in an existing electrical system, resulting in a significant reduction in power consumption
    costs.

• Our power quality solutions are guaranteed to decrease energy expenses and consumption, improve
electrical distribution, and extend the useful life of existing building and manufacturing equipment.

• The approach that we take to gain optimal electricity efficiency in process motors is to engineer and
install active or passive power treatment technologies to the individual loads in the facility

• Our approach is completely turnkey, including Survey for power quality benchmarking, Engineering,
Procurement, Installation, Commissioning, Employee Training, Monitoring and Verification during the
entire payback period, and an underwritten and insured Guarantee on the ROI from Lloyds of London.

• Our passive power quality solutions will save from 5 - 20% on electricity bills and dramatically lower cost
of maintenance, repair, and replacement of equipment.

• Even with so called “efficient” buildings that have already achieved Energy Star or LEED Certification, we
have been able to achieve additional electrical cost savings of up to 10%.

Over 75% of all manufacturing facilities in the United States are over 20 years old, yet they continue to increase
capacity, and install new and more complex equipment, which often times puts significant strain on their aging
electrical distribution systems. As manufacturers continue to keep pace, their facilities often develop electrical
distribution problems and increased energy consumption. Our unique open platform Electrical System Modeling
solves this problem for the long term

ISSUES:
• Most plants do not have accurate single line documents of their facility, and if they do, they’re in the form of
paper prints, which become obsolete the moment the plant makes a change. This factor makes it difficult for
plant managers to be armed with accurate information, and be proactive in lieu of reactive in solving problems

• When a plant manager or maintenance manager retire or leave a plant, they often take much of the knowledge
with them, leaving the new managers in the dark on all of the specific electrical issues within the facility

• Often times when modifications and upgrades in equipment are planned, the facility manager is unaware that
the changes may adversely affect their electrical distribution system.

TRADITIONAL APPROACH:
The traditional solution offered by equipment manufacturers, engineering firms and electricians is to recommend
over designed and expensive catch-all solutions and equipment, which often times do not address the specific root
cause of the existing facility problems.

INBALANCE SOLUTION:
Recognizing that the traditional methodology for addressing such issues in manufacturing facilities is both costly and
unnecessary, INBALANCE offers a unique and cost effective alternative called Building Electrical System Modeling.

INBALANCE LLC. Proprietary Information, Not to be copied, distributed or published in part or in whole without prior written approval
© 2011 INBALANCE. All rights reserved.
Our Open Platform Electrical Modeling Process includes he Following:

• Comprehensive Engineering Analysis of Electrical Systems, including short circuit, grounding and arcflash analysis

• Accurate field data collection using sophisticated data loggers and gaus meters

• Preparation of accurate One-Line Diagrams and Reports

• Creation of Arc Flash & Short Circuit Analysis

• Training of Electrical Personnel on Arc Flash PEP Requirements

• Real Time, accurate electrical system analysis

• Sector specific templates, e.g. plastics, food processing, automotive

Benefits:
• Armed with an exact computer model of a facility electrical system, INBALANCE can not only optimally solve any
electrical distribution problems, but also model any change that the plant intends to make in advance of them
implementing it, to determine any effects on the overall system.

• For the purpose of long term strategic planning related to the electrical distribution systems at the facility, the
computer model can then become an effective and powerful strategic tool for the manufacturing plant leadership team
to use for making long term planning decisions.

• The Model allows plant managers to effectively conduct effective on site evaluations, including field observations, and
    trouble shooting.

The Problem with Aging Facilities & Associated Critical Equipment:
Facilities that are over 20 years old, are utilizing mechanical and electrical equipment that was installed when the facility was
first constructed. Over time, this equipment degrades in terms of performance and efficiency, which leads to excessive use
of energy, high maintenance and replacement part costs, and system failures. Often times, replacement costs for such
critical equipment is not financially feasible.

INBALANCE specializes in delivering a valuable service called Retro Commissioning, also known as (RCx), where the primary
objective is to optimize the performance of existing building systems within their current configurations, in other words, a
“tune-up for your building”. This service allows for aging equipment to run more efficiently, and to increase life expectancy

Our Process – One Step At A Time:
The INBALANCE team uses proprietary modeling software and sophisticated data loggers to conduct a 5 step program that
will ensure the efficient operation of your energy-related assets.

Measurable Cost Savings:
As today’s energy costs and utility bills continue to skyrocket, identifying problem areas within your buildings will save you
significant amounts of energy and money. Our field data shows that the typical energy cost savings and operating cost
savings from retro commissioning ranges from 5% to 15% with a payback period of less than 2 years.

  • 8. What is Power Factor? • Power Factor is the measure of how effectively electrical power is being used • Power Factor involves the relationship between two types of power: Working Power and Reactive Power – Working Power–performs actual work of creating heat, light, motion, etc. – Reactive Power–sustains the electromagnetic field that is needed to run a motor (this is power that is essentially wasted energy, which is released as heat, and will degrade motor performance The Problem: • Up to 25% or more of billed electricity in a manufacturing facility is unusable and essentially wasted, in large part due to inefficient process motors. Most AC induction motors in facilities over 10 years old only operate at 80% efficiency, or less under a full load. • This type of waste can comprise 5% to 25% of total electricity demand, particularly in older or extremely complex electrical systems that have evolved over time, which equates to waste and higher electricity bills. • Low Power factor at critical process related motors, and for entire facilities is a costly, and often hidden problem, which results in reduced plant performance, line slow downs, over heating of equipment, increased maintenance costs, and utility company penalties INBALANCE LLC. • 9. The Solution: • INBALANCE introduces specifically designed and engineered power quality solutions which reduce the amount of non-productive current in an existing electrical system, resulting in a significant reduction in power consumption costs. • Our power quality solutions are guaranteed to decrease energy expenses and consumption, improve electrical distribution, and extend the useful life of existing building and manufacturing equipment. • The approach that we take to gain optimal electricity efficiency in process motors is to engineer and install active or passive power treatment technologies to the individual loads in the facility • Our approach is completely turnkey, including Survey for power quality benchmarking, Engineering, Procurement, Installation, Commissioning, Employee Training, Monitoring and Verification during the entire payback period, and an underwritten and insured Guarantee on the ROI from Lloyds of London. • Our passive power quality solutions will save from 5 - 20% on electricity bills and dramatically lower cost of maintenance, repair, and replacement of equipment. • Even with so called “efficient” buildings that have already achieved Energy Star or LEED Certification, we have been able to achieve additional electrical cost savings of up to 10%. • 11. Over 75% of all manufacturing facilities in the United States are over 20 years old, yet they continue to increase capacity, and install new and more complex equipment, which often times puts significant strain on their aging electrical distribution systems. As manufacturers continue to keep pace, their facilities often develop electrical distribution problems and increased energy consumption. Our unique open platform Electrical System Modeling solves this problem for the long term ISSUES: • Most plants do not have accurate single line documents of their facility, and if they do, they’re in the form of paper prints, which become obsolete the moment the plant makes a change. This factor makes it difficult for plant managers to be armed with accurate information, and be proactive in lieu of reactive in solving problems • When a plant manager or maintenance manager retire or leave a plant, they often take much of the knowledge with them, leaving the new managers in the dark on all of the specific electrical issues within the facility • Often times when modifications and upgrades in equipment are planned, the facility manager is unaware that the changes may adversely affect their electrical distribution system. TRADITIONAL APPROACH: The traditional solution offered by equipment manufacturers, engineering firms and electricians is to recommend over designed and expensive catch-all solutions and equipment, which often times do not address the specific root cause of the existing facility problems. INBALANCE SOLUTION: Recognizing that the traditional methodology for addressing such issues in manufacturing facilities is both costly and unnecessary, INBALANCE offers a unique and cost effective alternative called Building Electrical System Modeling. • 13. The Problem with Aging Facilities & Associated Critical Equipment: Facilities that are over 20 years old, are utilizing mechanical and electrical equipment that was installed when the facility was first constructed. Over time, this equipment degrades in terms of performance and efficiency, which leads to excessive use of energy, high maintenance and replacement part costs, and system failures. Often times, replacement costs for such critical equipment is not financially feasible. INBALANCE specializes in delivering a valuable service called Retro Commissioning, also known as (RCx), where the primary objective is to optimize the performance of existing building systems within their current configurations, in other words, a “tune-up for your building”. This service allows for aging equipment to run more efficiently, and to increase life expectancy Our Process – One Step At A Time: The INBALANCE team uses proprietary modeling software and sophisticated data loggers to conduct a 5 step program that will ensure the efficient operation of your energy-related assets. Measurable Cost Savings: As today’s energy costs and utility bills continue to skyrocket, identifying problem areas within your buildings will save you significant amounts of energy and money. Our field data shows that the typical energy cost savings and operating cost savings from retro commissioning ranges from 5% to 15% with a payback period of less than 2 years. INBALANCE LLC.
