Aims of the Workshop
To aware the students about the importance of MATLAB
To teach basic fundamentals of MATLAB which are used in programming, data analysis
& visualization
To teach image processing toolbox & its application in research projects.
To teach signal processing toolbox & its application in research projects
To teach communication system toolbox & its application in research projects
To give hands on experience on MATLAB Programming to the participants to develop
their self confidence
About & Duration the Workshop
The workshop includes four modules a basic module, image processing module, signal
processing module & communication system module. We are also focusing on application
based projects to have practical understanding of the subject. Basic module is of two day
duration & others are of three days, the content of each module is given below.

Upon the completion of this course, the participants will gain the comprehensive knowledge of
MATLAB as a programming language. They will also able to analyze & solve research problems
in field of signal processing, image processing & communication systems.

Why M-LABs?
M-LABs is established by IITians to give full support to the students in their MATLAB based
research projects & simulation work in the field of Signal Processing & Communication
(SPCOM) and Digital Image Processing (DIP).
As compared to the developed countries like US, FRANCE etc we have seen that the students in
various universities/institutes in INDIA are not getting the proper exposure to develop their
interest & skills in MATLAB based research projects. Therefore we felt that there is need of an
organization, which could develop the interest & enthusiasm among young talented minds for
research.
Infrastructure required for the workshop
Availability of Seminar room, projector, one laptop/desktop etc.
One computer lab with sufficient number of PCs with internet (Preferably with
MATLAB installed).
The students are required to bring their own Laptops, if the PCs are not available

Instructor’s Profile
All the members of our team will be IITians having years of research experience in field of
image processing, signal processing & communication systems. Our member has published some
papers in IEEE/Springer/ACM and also worked as Researcher in IITs.
About MATLAB
MATLAB stands for MATRIX LABORATORY. It is primarily a tool for matrix computations
& was developed by John Little and Cleve Moler of MathWorks. MATLAB is a high-level
language whose basic data type is a matrix that does not require dimensioning. There is no
compilation and linking as is done in high-level languages, such as C.
MATLAB has a rich set of plotting capabilities. The graphics are also integrated in MATLAB.
Since MATLAB is also a programming environment, a user can extend the functional
capabilities of MATLAB by writing new modules.
