CONSTRUCTING YOUR
THEORETICAL AND
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORKS

▪ The study will seek to answer the following
questions:
▪ 1.What is the demographic profile of the participants in
terms of age, sex, economic status, and educational
attainment?
▪ 2.What is the level of knowledge of the participants on
sexually transmitted infection?
▪ 3.What is the attitude of the participants on people with
sexually transmitted infection?
▪ 4. Is there a significant relationship between the
participants’ demographic profile and their knowledge
on STIs?
▪ 5. Is there a significant relationship between the
participants’ demographic profile and their attitude
towards people with STIs?
Questions
▪ What are the variables to be studied
according to the set of research questions?
Identify the dependent and the independent
variables.
▪ Were you given some ideas on what to
measure to determine the participants’
knowledge on STIs?
▪ Were you given some ideas on what to
measure to determine the participants’
attitude towards people with STIs?
▪ How can you identify what specific aspects of
those variables should be considered for
these to be measured?
▪ Knowledge of science or art derived from
such study and speculation (Webster, 2000)
▪ A hypothesis that has been tested for
numerous times (Venzon, 2004)
▪ An integrated set of defined concepts and
statements that present a view of a
phenomenon and can be used to describe,
explain, predict, and control that
phenomenon (Burns & Grove, 2007)
▪It identifies parameters for the
study
▪It guides data collection
▪It provides perspective in he
interpretation of data to enable the
researcher to structure facts into an
orderly system
▪Search for a theory (or research
paper) that you think is the most
related to your topic.
▪Identify the parameters measured
therein for the variables studied in
the research.
▪Find out how it can be related to
your current research study.

determining his or her perception on the
disease process, mode of transmission,
and prevention and treatment. On the
other hand, a person’s attitude towards
people with STIs can be determined by

participants’ demographic profile and their knowledge on

participants’ demographic profile and their attitude towards
people with STIs?
▪ A scheme formulated out of the review
of related literature
▪ Clarifies the relationship between and
among the major variables of the
study
▪ The researcher’s own position on the
problem
▪ An explanation of the problem to be
studied after the researcher’s review
of various literatures and studies.
▪ Illustrated in a conceptual paradigm
▪Refer to your SOP.
