17. THE HOLY SPIRIT OUR ENABLER
“ … The Holy Spirit, who sanctifies the people of
God through the ministry and sacraments gives to
the faithful special gifts as well ( 1 Cor 12:7)
allotting to everyone according to His will (1 Cor
12:11). Thus may the individual, according to the
gift each has received, administered it to one
another and become good stewards of the
manifold grace of God (1Peter 4:10) and build up
thereby the whole body in charity ( Eph 4:16)

21. Who is this Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is the Third Person
of the Blessed Trinity.
Though really distinct, as a Person
, from the Father and the Son, He is
consubstantial with Them; being
God like Them, He possesses with
Them one and the same Divine
Essence or Nature.
22. Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God, begotten not made,
consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
23. Nicene Creed
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the
Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius
Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day,
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.
24. Nicene Creed
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored
and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic
Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of
sins and I look forward to the resurrection of
the dead and the life of the world to come.
Amen
25. Proceed from the Father and Son
"When he, the Spirit of truth comes, he
will guide you into all truth.
For he will not speak on His own; but will
speak what ever he hears, and He will
declare to you the things that are to
come.
He will glorify me; because he will take
what is mine, and declare it to you.
All that the Father has is mine. For this
reason I said that will take what is mine,
and declare it to you." John 16:13-15

34. THE HOLY SPIRIT IN BRIEF
(C.C.C.)
742 -"Because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his
Son into our hearts, crying, 'Abba! Father!"' (Gal 4:6).
743 -From the beginning to the end of time, whenever God
sends his Son, he always sends his Spirit: their mission is
conjoined and inseparable.
744 -In the fullness of time the Holy Spirit completes in Mary
all the preparations for Christ's coming among the People
of God. By the action of the Holy Spirit in her, the Father
gives the world Emmanuel "God-with-us" (Mt 1:23).
35. THE HOLY SPIRIT IN BRIEF
(C.C.C.)
745- The Son of God was consecrated as Christ (Messiah)
by the anointing of the Holy Spirit at his Incarnation (cf. Ps
2:6-7).
746 -By his Death and his Resurrection, Jesus is
constituted in glory as Lord and Christ (cf. Acts 2:36). From
his fullness, he poured out the Holy Spirit on the apostles
and the Church.
747- The Holy Spirit, whom Christ the head pours out on his
members, builds, animates, and sanctifies the Church. She
is the sacrament of the Holy Trinity's communion with men.

41. The 7 gifts as defined by St. Thomas
Aquinas in the Summa Theologica
• Wisdom - The gift of wisdom perfects a
person's speculative reason in matters of
judgment about the truth.
• Understanding - The gift of
understanding perfects a person's
speculative reason in the apprehension of
truth. It is the gift "whereby self-evident
principles are known.”
41
42. • Knowledge - The gift of knowledge
perfects a person's practical reason in
matters of judgment about the truth.
• Counsel - Also called "Right Judgment."
The gift of counsel perfects a person's
practical reason in the apprehension of
truth and allows the person to respond
prudently, "moved through the research of
reason." 42
43. • Fortitude - Also called "Courage." The
gift of fortitude allows people the "firmness
of mind [that] is required both in doing
good and in enduring evil, especially with
regard to good or evil that are difficult."
• Piety - Also called "Reverence." Piety is
the gift "whereby, at the Holy Spirit's
instigation,we pay worship and duty to
God as our Father." 43
44. • Fear of the Lord - Also called "Wonder
and Awe in God." This gift is described by
Aquinas as a fear of separating oneself
from God. He describes the gift as a "filial
fear," like a child's fear of offending his
father, rather than a "servile fear," that is, a
fear of punishment.
44
47. • Variety of Gifts - same Spirit
• Variety of services - same Lord
• Variety of activities - same God
• All these are activated by one
and the same Spirit
• 1 Cor 12: 4-7
Gifts are not exhaustive

like the rush of a violent wind,
and it filled the entire the

tongue rested on each one of
them. All of them were all filled
with the Holy Spirit and began
to speak in other languages, as
the Spirit gave them ability” 51
(Acts 2:2-4).
52. Morning of Pentecost
• The crowd heard the apostles
speaking in different tongues. (Acts
2:7-9).
• The crowd thought the apostles
were drunk “filled with new wine”
(Acts 2:13)
• Peter stood up before the crowd and
proclaimed the Good News in a loud
voice. (Acts 2:14).
• Three thousand people were
baptized that afternoon (Acts 2:41).

61. HOW DO WE ENCOUNTER THE
HOLY SPIRIT IN OUR DAILY
LIVES?
•WORSHIP;
•WORD OF GOD;
•PRAYERS;
•SACRAMENTS;
61
62. The point of all the sacraments is to
make us holy, to make us radiate
with God's own life, and to bring us
to heaven. That is the great mission
of the Holy Spirit.
62
64. God’s ultimate plan for us – that we may:
...attain to the whole measure of the
fullness of Christ (Eph. 4:13)
"Our greatest wish and prayer is that you
will become mature Christians." 2 Cor

not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging

prophecy and can
fathom all mysteries and
all knowledge, and if I
have a faith that can
move mountains, but
mountains
have not love, I am
nothing 65
1 Corinthians 13:2
66. To share the Spirit with
others, we should pray for
the love of Christ to
motivate us (2 Cor 5:14),
"The Lord is the Spirit, and
where the Spirit of the Lord
is, there is freedom" (2 Cor
3:17). 66

he cried.
"Who'll start the bidding

now two, only two -

"Three dollars once,
three dollars twice,

BUT NO! 74

Then wiping the dust
from

And tightening up
all the strings,
He played a melody pure

As sweet as an angel75

and the auctioneer,
With a voice that was
quiet and low,
Said: "What am I bid

And he held it up with

REMEMBER JOHN 16: 4-7 AT PAGE 1218 THE MISSION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL BEGIN AFTER THE ASCENSION NEVERTHELESS I TELL YOU THE TRUTH, IT IS YOUR ADVANTAGE THAT I GO AWAY, FOR IF I DO NOT GO AWAY, THE ADVOCATE WILL NOT COME TO YOU, BUT IF I GO, I WILL SENT HIM TO YOU. WHAT JESUS IS BASICALLY SAYING IS THAT THE MISSION WILL CONTINUE WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THAT WILL HAPPEN AFTER HIS ASCENSION.
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows it. But you know it, because it remains with you, and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. (John 14: 16-18)
The promise and the gift of the Holy Spirit given to the Disciples. The mission of the Holy Spirit GUIDE YOU TO ALL TRUTH –
1 John 1 :8 – “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”
THIS IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE GREAT COMMISSIONING OF THE DISCIPLES HE COMMISSIONED THEM FOR A MISSION
TO BE HIS WITNESSES TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH
"Since we live by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit's lead." —Galatians 5:25
DON’T BE CONFUSED THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT CAME ONLY AT PENTECOST
GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT – BREATHE ON THEM GENESIS- 2:7 – HE BREATHE INTO HIS NOSTRIL THE BREATH OF LIFE WHEN JESUS BREATHE ON THEM IN JOHN 20:22 – HE WAS GIVING THEM THE BREATH OF NEW LIFE NEW LIFE IN THE SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit dwells in you, you are the temple of the Holy Spirit – John 14:17 , Romans 8:11, Eph 2:21-22, 1 Cor 3:16
Lets look at our Nicene Creed -
“ The Holy Spirit will come upon you, the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore a Child to be born will be Holy; He will be called the Son of God" (Luke 1:35 ).
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, ( Gen 2: 7) (John 20:21,22) “ … while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters..” - Gen 1:2 “ Jesus said to them again “Peace be with you” As the Father sent me, so I send you, When He said this, He breathe on them and said “Receive the Holy Spirit” John 20:21-22
Lets see how the Holy Spirit was involved in Jesus and His Mission on earth !
MARY IS THE FIRST CHARISMATIC
Genesis 1:2 – While a wind from God. Swept over the face of the earth. The wind blows where it will. You hear the sound it makes but you do not know where it comes from, or where it goes. So it is with everyone begotten of the Spirit." —John 3:8 “‘ As the Father has sent me, so I send you’. When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them: ‘ RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT’.” (John 20:22

HOW DOES HE BUILD AND ANIMATES AND SANCTIFIES THE CHURCH? WITH HIS GIFTS - GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT GIFTS OF THE GIFT BECAUSE THEY ARE GIFTS- NEVER WORTHY
The term has, however, a narrower meaning: the spiritual graces and qualifications granted to every Christian to perform his task in the Church: "Every one hath his proper gift [charisma] from God; one after this manner, and another after that" (1 Corinthians 7:7 etc.). Lastly, in its narrowest sense, charisma is the theological term for denoting extraordinary graces given to individual Christians for the good of others The spiritual gifts or charisms of the Holy Ghost are of two kinds: 1- The first, are specially intended for the sanctification of the person who receives them: The seven gifts of Is1:2-3: Wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety (godliness), and fear of the Lord. 2- The second, more properly called charismata or charisms, are extraordinary gifts granted for the help of another, for service to the Church, except the "gift of tongues" which is "to strengthen oneself" (1Cor.14:4). Some of these, are enumerated by St. Paul in 1Cor.12. They are 9: "The word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, faith, the grace of healing, the working of miracles, prophecy, the discerning of spirits, diverse kinds of tongues, interpretation of tongues" (I Cor.12:4-10).
THESE ARE THE GIFTS WE SHOULD BE STRIVING AND YEARNING FOR. THERE ARE THE GIFTS THAT WILL SANCTIFY AND MAKE US HOLY.

"Always be ready to make your defence to anyone, who demands from you an account of the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and reverence” (1Peter3:15)
PENTECOST MEANS 50 DAYS – HERE 50 DAYS AFTER THE RESURRECTION Jesus ascended into Heaven after 40 days His ascension was witnessed by 500 people. The Apostles returned to the City of Jerusalem and went up to the room where they were staying and gathered to pray with Mary
The Disciples were frighten and gathered behind closed doors and hid from the Romans The sensed emptiness, abandonment and being forsaken and perhaps betrayed by their own “Master” For 40 days after Jesus Christ Resurrection he appeared in many ways to His disciples (John 20:19, John 21:19) They were still apprehensive and afraid but Jesus told them to wait for the Holy Spirit
AFTER PENTECOST – PROCLAIM BOLDLY BREKAING OF BREAD; FROM FISHERMEN TO APOSTLES FROM COWARDS TO MARTYRS AND NOW IN OUR PRESENT TIME? CHARISMATIC
RENEWAL IS NOT JUST THE HEART BUT THE MIND AS WELL. OUR MINDS ARE CORRUPTED WITH THE STANDARDS OF THE WORLD; -
ENABLE THE ENABLER; WHEN YOU ARE UNABLE -GOD IS ABLE; WHEN YOU ARE ABLE -YOU DISABLE THE ENABLER; BE ABLE TO ENABLE THE ENABLER; DON’T DISABLE THE HOLY SPIRIT DON’T WAIT TILL YOU ARE DISABLED SPIRITUALLY !
The Acts of the Apostles continues down to our own day. God wants to write new chapters, with each of us — and that includes you — playing an important role. The wind is still blowing. The fire of the Holy Spirit still burns. Each of us, however, needs to let the Holy Spirit in to do his work. Each of us has to allow the Holy Spirit to bring about a similar miracle in us.
GROW IN THE SPIRIT – “ Do not neglect the gift that is in you” 1 Timothy 4:14-15 NOT FOR SELF GLORIFICATION
